ATI - Freeze dès que je lance un truc en 3D

Bonjour, je possède une Radeon 9600 Pro, et ai installé les drivers ATI. Etant tout nouveau sur Ubuntu (installé hier soir), je ne sais pas trop quoi faire quand ça ne marche pas, à part chercher un peu partout sur le net. Après 4 heures de recherches et tests divers, je rends les armes et m'en remets à vous.

Le problème donc : assez simple, dès que je lance quelque chose qui utilise la 3D (glxgears, un écran de veille, xgl...), l'écran freeze au bout de quelques secondes (ou devient tout noir selon les cas), et je dois rebooter manuellement.

J'ai bien mon cube avec fgl_glxgears, il tourne 2-3 sec puis freeze (je peux encore bouger le curseur de la souris, mais impossible de cliquer sur quoi que ce soit ou de taper au clavier).

glxgears dure un poil plus longtemps, juste assez pour me donner un minable 250 fps.
