beaucoup mieux, j'ai récupéré le fond d'écran, plus les icônes dans la barre à gauche qui fonctionnent à une seule exception.

lorsque j'essaie d'ouvrir mes disques durs externes, je n'obtiens pas les répertoires ni les fichiers mais une fenêtre s'ouvre "analyseur d'utilisation des disques" qui lance l'analyse du disque choisi. Je pense que c'est le dernier petit problème à régler.

Dans tous les cas une grande avancée grâce à votre aide.

Dans ce cas tu peux essayer de faire un reset de la configuration des icônes de la barre de lancement :

unity --reset-icons

quand je tente d'ouvrir le disque externe 
dans le terminal s'inscrit ceci :

Je te propose un RAZ radical.

Dans ton dossier utilisateur :

cd /home/pierre/

On supprime les fichiers :

rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity .compiz-1 .config/compiz-1 .config/dconf

Ou si tu préfères une sauvegarde :

mkdir SAV_CONFIG
mv -t SAV_CONFIG/ .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity .compiz-1 .config/compiz-1 .config/dconf
sudo service lightdm restart

Le bureau sera alors dans une configuration par défaut comme après l'installation.

En espérant que cela résolve le problème smile

J'ai effectué la RAZ et  depuis j'ai dans mon dossier utilisateur la vision des disques externes et la possibilité d'accéder aux répertoires.

mais quand je tente de les ouvrir directement par leurs icônes dans la barre de lancement ceci provoque une analyse du disque et non l'accès aux répertoires.

As-tu essayé de redémarrer complètement après les manip ?

Ça fonctionne normalement lorsque tu utilise le gestionnaire de fichier ?

Donne le retour de :

cat ~/.xsession-errors

Sinon peut-être q'un :

sudo dpkg-reconfigure unity

Ou alors une suppression puis une réinstallation d'unity :

sudo apt-get remove --purge unity
sudo apt-get install unity

J'ai procédé à une suppression puis une ré installation d' unity en redémarrant complètement après les manip.

Résultat : j'accède à mes disques durs  externes par le gestionnaire de fichier sans problème, mais si je clic directement sur les icônes situées dans la barre de lancement  une fenêtre s' ouvre avec "analyseur d'utilisation des disques" et provoque  une analyse du disque et non l'accès aux répertoires.
et pourtant les disques sont bien montés puis qu'un clic droit me propose de démonter le disque.

tout le reste fonctionne normalement grâce à votre aide et je vous en remercie.
