J'ai l 'impression, sans doute justifiée, que  personne  ne lit ce que j'écris.
je suis sans doute un des seuls, ici, qui travaille sur différends type d'OS.
Hors ce souci existe partout et il est, a mon point de vue, lié non pas a l'OS mais a autre chose. et de plus totalement aléatoire.
Je l'ai encore eu ce matin  sous XP

Si si ! Mais je serais curieux : un ordinateur sous XP qui ne fonctionne pas bien en USB, que se passe-t-il si tu réinstalles le PC avec le disque XP d'origine et sans faire les mises à niveau ? Enfin c'est de la fausse curiosité, parce que j'arrive à me passer de XP (sauf pour mon synthétiseur qui s'interface en USB). En tout cas quand j'avais changé de carte-mère pour une MSI, le programme du synthétiseur ne fonctionnait plus avec virtual box (version usb) et l'USB, et le paramètre noacpi dans /etc/defaut/grub a permis de me servir de l'USB normalement, y compris avec virtual box et XP.

Qu'un port USB 2 fonctionne en USB 1 et soit lent sous XP aussi, je veux bien (j'ai déjà eu le cas), mais ça m'étonnerait que la charge système monte à fond sur ton PC qui tourne sous XP jusqu'à mettre le système à genoux rien que parce qu'on copie un "gros" fichier sur une clé USB comme c'est le cas sous Linux... À la base, c'était ça le problème qui m'a fait ouvrir ce sujet.

j'ai pas l'impression que ça change grand chose. au passage, ça veut dire quoi "balance_dirty_pages" dans le moniteur système (colonne canal d'attente)? cp semble bloqué dans cet état et il est la plupart du temps au repos.

là au hasard, je pense qu'il s'agit de segment de la mémoire à synchroniser (dirty = état modifié) la mémoire étant découpé en "pages"... mais je ne sais pas si c'est anormal ou pas.

Si malheureusement et plus d'une fois.
La soluce est difficile a trouver car le souci est totalement  aléatoire.
Et nous venons  de découvrir un autre souci, peut être sans rapport, lié a la qualité d'un câble usb d'un autre perif qui fait chuter ou même empêche tout  transfert des autres perifs.
Genre erreur scanner ou imprimante ou clef alors que le câble en cause n'est pas sur le perif concerné le première fois on y croyait pas trop, mais le souci c'est répété une dizaine  de fois et a chaque fois, réglé par le recherche et l’échange du câble fautif.
Me demandez pas le pourquoi, je vous donne  la soluce que nous avons trouvé.
Sous win le défaut ce manifeste soit par le message "branchez votre appareil sur un port USB2" soit, en plein travail, par un plantage ou "délais dépassé", sous Linux je ne l'ai pas encore eut.
Je reste persuadé que le souci est matériel pas soft, même si certaines solutions soft  peuvent compenser

woh, même les câbles (ya de quoi les pêter, héhéhé)

je veux bien que le souci soit matériel, mais dans ce cas pourquoi ça arrive à des gens qui ont du matériel différent? ça revient au même. Peut-être que sur un ordi il y a 10 trucs qui peuvent potentiellement foutre la merde avec l'usb (avec peut-être un mélange de problèmes matériels et logiciels).

bon moi je vais arrêter pour aujourd'hui. je crois que le noapic n'a pas été apprécié par mon ordi il est toujours en train de "copier" ce maudit fichier, je vais killer le processus et éteindre la bécane.

Parce-que les matos est différend mais les puces sont souvent les mêmes, et de toute façon, elles doivent correspondre a un standard qui régit le protocole, donc il y a des chances de retrouver les problèmes dans des matos, a première vue, différents

pff, ça me dépasse complétement. c'est déconcertant là je sais pas quoi faire. c'est pire que de ce retrouver face à un problème compliqué, mais qu'on peut surpasser en acquérant quelques connaissances. là avec ce que tu dis, j'ai l'impression que j'ai beau m'atteler à lire de la doc, c'est de toute façon peine perdue.
aujourd'hui je vais faire autre chose, sinon ça va me coller la déprime

Tu ne résoudra pas le soucis tout seul, à moins d'être codeurs kernel, par contre, si tu veux faire une différence et aider à le résoudre, recherche sur launchpad si le bug est signalé, marque toi comme touché aussi, et demande ce que tu peux faire comme test pour tenter d'isoler le soucis. Tu peux aussi installer un noyau "vanilla" (sans les changements d'ubuntu) pour voir si ça fait une différence, et tester la dernière version disponible, ça c'est dans tes cordes si t'es un peu motivé.

J'ai jamais entendu parlé de vanilla. en cherchant je tombe sur pleins de pages qui traitent de différents sujets. tu pourrais un peu détailler ce que tu entends par installer un noyau vanilla? merci beaucoup!
p.s. avant de me lancer là dedans, je vais faire une sauvegarde (sur usb, donc ça va me prendre des plombes hihihi)

Vanilla, c'est un terme qui signifie "sans modifications", "d'origine" (je ne sais pas d'où vient l'expression).

super. merci t-shirtman! je pense que ta technique va me permettre d'avoir des logs complets, j'ai la sensation que tout ne s'affiche pas dans ma console quand je lance une commande (j'arrive pas à remonter jusqu'à l'invit de commande précédente).

j'ai un peu moins de temps mais je continue. Il m'a semblé avoir d'autres problèmes sur mon ordi en parcourant ces différents logs (il y a plusieurs sections en rouge dans la version html de mon lshw). ça doit être dû à mon partitionnement chaotique (un jour j'ai voulu faire du multi-boot et ça c'est pas très bien passé...). j'ai aussi l'impression que toute ma RAM n'est pas reconnue (je suis censé en avoir 6 giga). je vais commencer par mettre de l'ordre à ce niveau pour voir si ça aide. il faut peut-être aussi que je passe en 64 bit (j'avais lu que le 64 bit ça foutait la merde, mais j'ai jamais essayé pour voir).

petite remarque au passage, en fait avec un dd externe la vitesse d'écriture est plutôt correcte, ya vraiment qu'avec la clé usb que ça foire, donc sur ce point je rejoins d'autres qui ont le même phénomène sur ce topic.

je reviens quand j'aurais du neuf

oh, pour les gros logs, tu peux régler ton terminal sur "illimité" dans "profil"→"préferences du profil" →"défilement", ça ne pose pas vraiment de soucis de mémoire, sauf si tu passe ta journée a faire des commandes de milliers de lignes de sorties… (et au pire, fermer/ouvrir un autre terminal…)

Le 64 bit ça va mieux depuis un an ou deux, et ça aide pour la mémoire >4G oui (normalement on ne peux pas adresser plus de 4G en 32 bit, a cause de la taille des pointeurs, tout ça…).

Si ça marche avec un DD externe, et pas (bien) avec une clé, ça peut venir du controlleur USB de la clé qui serait mal reconnus, ou défaillant, si c'est avec toutes les clés, je sais pas.

petit apport de ma part,
ayant le meme soucis, j'ai fait le test de vitesse de transfert via le terminal, ce qui me donne ceci:

en soi, plutot correct, cepandant,
lorsque je veux transféré (par exemple) un film sur une clé USB (2.0), disons un film de 1.4Go, le transfert est très rapide jusqu'a la moitié de la taille du fichier, puis ralenti de + en +... descendant jusque 6Mb/sec, et pour les gros transferts (plusieurs giga) jusqu'au plus bas possible...

donc, meme problème que tous...

et la je viens de tester dans le sens clé USB --->PC....   et le transfert se fait normalement!  environ 18Mbs/sec.

donc, je conclus que ce n'est pas le "transfert" en lui meme qui est lent, mais l'écriture sur le "receveur" USB...

alors je sais pas si ca a déja été évoqué dans le fil de discussion, j'ai pas tout lu, mais peut etre que c'est une piste a creuser... non?

Pour info, je tourne sur:
portable Toshiba C670, avec un quadcore i3-2310M, 4Go de ram,
OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
clé USB 2.0: Kingston 4Go

Attendez, c'est tout à fait normal que l'écriture sur clé USB soit plus lente que la lecture. Toutefois afin de ne pas se faire avoir entre l'écriture du cache et de la clé USB, la vitesse en octets par seconde est donnée par :
vitesse (o/s) = taille du fichier (en octets) / durée de la copie (en seconde).
Il est classique qu'une clé USB ayant une vitesse de lecture de 10 Mo/s ait une vitesse d'écriture de 4 Mo/s. EMTEC fait une clé à 15 Mo/s en lecture et 8 Mo/s en écriture.

Le problème vient surtout quand on connecte un disque dur EIDE/UDMA ou SATA sur USB et qu'on n'est pas à une vitesse d'écriture de 31 à 34 Mo/s pour un disque 3,5 pouces, non ? ou une clé USB qui a une vitesse réelle de 2 Mo/s en lecture ... ce qui est presque de l'USB mode 1...

Comme précisé dans mon premier message, le problème n'est pas que l'écriture soit plus lente que la lecture, mais que non seulement la vitesse d'écriture baisse fortement au fur et à mesure de la copie, mais en plus la charge système monte à des valeurs stratosphériques qui mettent l'OS à genoux pendant la copie.

Dans mes tests, j'étais tombé à des taux très bas (ça se comptait en ko/s, voire en octets /s).

Une petite contribution de plus : j'ai le même problème. Quand j'essaye de copier un fichier, généralement au début ça va mais les derniers Mo sont interminables ! Par exemple sur un fichier de 320Mo, les 316 premiers ça peut aller (quelque fois c'est un peu lent...) mais les 4 derniers durent beaucoup longtemps que les autres.
J'ai tenté de formater mes clé en fat32 et ntfs (pour que windows puisse lire) et même après un formatage et une clé toute propre c'est pareil. Ca va même quelque fois jusqu'à me faire planter mes fenêtres ! Avec la commande cp idem, ça me fait planter le terminal.

Je suis en dual boot ubuntu/W7, j'ai remarqué que si je veux copier un fichier de la partition Windows vers ma clé (depuis ubuntu) c'est plus rapide de le c/c d'abord sur ubuntu et ensuite sur la clé (le problème est toujours bien présent, mais ça plante moins).

J'ai le même problème avec toutes les clés ! Je ne sais pas exactement depuis quand, mais j'aurais tendance à dire depuis unity. Les clés marchent bien sur windows et j'ai le même problème sur un autre pc avec ubuntu (mais que je n'utilise quasiment pas donc sur l'autre ça ne me gène pas).
