Peut-être devrais-je réessayer avec wicd,car NetworkManager ne me permets pas de configurer eth1 ou même une autre interface, on me réponds toujours que l'interface n'existe pas!
Peut-être devrais-je récupérer le fichier /networking.dpkg.old:je suis allée le voir, cela a l'air d'être le fichier d'origine car il y a les lignes commenter en anglais mais visiblement j'ai dû en perdre un morceau car en allant compulser différents posts, j'en ai vu un dans son intégralité: peut-être pourrai-je récupérer la partie manquante?.
Une autre chose m'étonne, c'est que lorsque j'ai voulu configurer le fichier wpa_supplicant, j'avais une page vierge et la aussi en cherchant sur le forum, j'ai eu l'occasion d'en voir un avec tout un tas de lignes explicatives en anglais: je n'ai rien de tout ça!
Peut-être ai-je malencontreusement viré le fichier d'origine networking et c'est pour cela que j'obtiens ces réponses bizarres!

avec votre clé à la place des X et votre réseau à la place de "Nom réseau". Si vous êtes sur système ouvert, remplacez restricted par open.

Que voulez-vous dire par système ouvert?--> pour moi cela voulait dire sans clé, mais j'ai peut-être mal interprété le mot-->open, voulez-vous dire par là que la Livebox n'est pas cachée?
Je n'ai essayé qu'avec la formule "key restricted"

tu peux tenter de déplacer le fichier dans un autre répertoire

purge les fichier des interfaces, avec network-manager installé

sudo killall -9 NetworkManager

essaye alors une connexion avec Network-manager

ce matin (28-02) aprés avoir remis la sécurité sur la Livebox, je n'ai plus de connexion avec le mode itinérant.(ce qui me semble normal)
J'ai bien un fichier /init.d/networking, alors pourquoi on me réponds qu'il n'est pas trouvé!

J'ai fait l'essai sans succès, mais je vois que j'ai oublié:

sudo killall -9 NetworkManager 
sudo NetworkManager
nm-applet

Du coup, j'ai réessayé avec Wicd mais sans plus de résultat!

J'ai tout recommencé à zéro:
1-désinstallé Wicd
2- me reconnectée en dhcp (sans protection) afin de réinstaller NetworkManager
3- lancé toutes les commandes que tu m'as données
4- après :

nm-applet

le curseur clignote --> rien n'apparaît...!!!
5- je ne suis pas connectée  malgré l'association de la Livebox avec nm-tool, elle est là mais pas associée.

En remontant pour refaire tout cela, j'ai vu que j'étais de ,nouveau en association avec la Livebox et avec un "sudo dhclient eth1" j'étais connectée.J'ai  alors refait les commandes après avoir réinstallé la clé: là rien du tout. mais après "nm-applet--> j'attends et rien ne se passe ; pas d'icône mais je peux la mettre en cliquant droit( pour avoir lale petit double écran: si je clique dessus et ensuite sur "configurer "lo ou lorsqu'il y est eth1, on me réponds toujours que l'interface n'existe pas)
"nm-tool" montre la Livebox connectée ou déconnectée selon son état.
En procédant ainsi j'arrive donc à me connecter mais en itinérant: une fois en itinérant puis-je espèrer mieux si j'y reste un certain temps?
quelles sont les commandes pour faire travailler NetworkManager? J'y arrive aussi de nouveau en dhcp sans protection.
J'ai oublié de regarder si le fichier "dpkg-old avait quitté l'emplacement /etc/: je pense que oui puisque la commande de déplacement n'a pas fait de ricocher.
wpa_supplicant: j'ai essayé aussi sans succès .
Je ne suis guère avancée! Merci tout de même. Si tu as une autre idée...

J'ai refait le processus mais je me rends compte que dans les -->applications NetworkManager ne figure pas, ce qui explique que je n'ai pas l'applet: pourquoi? Puisque je l'ai réinstallé avec Synaptic!
Ya-t-il un site sur lequel le récupérer? Histoire de voir si cela fait la meme chose!

J'ai encore oublié d'aller voir si ce fichier était toujours là.
Pour wpa_supplicant: je l'essaie toujours avec NetworkManager?
Je croyais que ce n'était valable que pour Wicd.
Par contre dans la doc. il semble que ce ne soit pas valable pour "Hardy"

wpa_supplicat se fait à la main mais avant de le lancer il faut arrêter networkmanager

Merci pour tout, je vais essayer mais lorsque j'ai fait :

$ lsmod | grep wext

il n'y a pas eu de retour (je voulais savoir s'il était installé sur ma machine, car il me semble que wpa_supplicant ne fonctionne qu'avec ce driver.)

wext n'est pas un driver mais un nom qui signifie que
le module utilisé fait partie du noyau, dans ton cas c'est ipw je pense
mais ça devrait passer par wext

Du coup, j'ai vérifié, j'avais oublié de faire:

$ sudo killall NetworManager
$ sudo killall nm-applet

réponse pour l'applet--> aucun processus tué

j'ai alors recommencé:

ça ne va toujours pas !!

as tu le live cd, essaye en live pour voir.

Pas de live cd. J'ai recommencé avec Network-admin, le signal passe (97%) et attente/émission/réception, déconnection très brève ne cessent de clignoter(avec une clé wep en héxa).
J'ai repris aussi le wpa_supplicant.
S'il te plaît jette un coup d'oeil à la réponse du lancement du wpa_supplicant: il y a un problème.
Sais-tu ce que je dois faire pour que cela marche?cette réponse je l'ai déjà eu Hier.

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp

pre-up wpa_supplicant -Bw -Dwext -ieth1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

sudo rm -r /var/run/wpa_supplicant/eth1

Bon, on essaye en wep ou wpa, mais en dhcp.
Choisis puis on remplit les fichiers ensembles
et on sera fixé.
