KDE moins fluide et plus lent a réagir que Gnome sur mon P4

Bonjour,
              j'ai un Pentium 4   2.8GHz avec 1.5 Gig de RAM.  J'ai installé Kubuntu 10.10 que j'aime bien, pour diverses raisons. Sauf que je le trouvais un peu lent au démarrage (1 minute à 1minute 20 après le menu de GRUB),  et la réactivité de Dolphin, Firefox et de mon bureau en général (gélatine des fenêtres, redimensionnement etc) n'est pas extraordinaire.  J'ai donc essayé d'installer Ubuntu 10.10 et là, ce fut un choc total:  35 à 40 secondes pour démarrer, Nautilus qui s'ouvre immédiatement sur le clic de souris, sans moment de latence, idem pour Firefox et un affichage de bureau totalement fluide avec pleins d'effets.  Rien de saccadé comme sur KDE.

Donc, est-ce normal de voir autant de différence avec le matériel que j'ai?  Est-ce que 1 Gig de RAM de plus pourrait aider? Qu'est-ce que je pourrais configurer sous Kubuntu pour augmenter la fluidité d'ensemble?

P.S.:  Je ne veux pas un débat KDE vs Gnome (en fait, je n'ai trouvé que ça sur le web dans mes recherches), mais j'aimerais pouvoir disposé d'un Kubuntu aussi fluide que Ubuntu.

Problème de carte graphique apparemment, qu'avais tu mis comme driver ? As tu toujours Kubuntu installé et comme le demande jajaX : as tu testé sans les effets ?

Dans NVIDIA X Server Settings, j'ai trouvé ma version de driver:  173.14.28  (Pilote d'accélération graphique NVidia version 173).

J'ai testé sans les effets: les fenêtres bougent bien.  Par contre, aucun changement pour le temps d'attente lors du démarrage de logiciels tels que Firefox, Gedit, et surtout Dolphin (5 ou six petits rebonds au minimum  smile  )  En plus, sans les effets, l'affichage des fenêtres est vraiment instable (par exemple les boutons quit, minimize, etc qui disparaissent).

Pour être plus clair, je recherche 4 choses:  démarrer plus rapidement (comme sur Ubuntu)
                                                                      que Dolphin, Firefox, Gedit (la base)  démarrent aussi vite que sur Ubuntu
                                                                      que ma "gélatine" ne soit pas saccadée (on dirait qu'elle a un grid derrière!)
                                                                      que la rotation en cube soit fluide.

En même temps si tu veux un KDE véloce, go OpenSUSE ou Chakra, pas Kubuntu. Et j'ai quasiment le même matos que toi: CPU Pentium 4 HT 3,2 GHz avec 2Go de RAM. Aucun ralentissement en vue. Seule mon Arch est plus rapide que mon OpenSuse et que ma Chakra.

tu peux pas essayer de mettre le "nvidia-glx-185" plutôt ?

OK. J'essaie ce pilote à la maison ce soir et je vous reviens là-dessus.

@Ypnose:  je débute sous  Linux et je croyais que Gnome ou Kde, c'était à peu près équivalent au point de vue "vélocité"....  Donc théoriquement Kubuntu et Ubuntu devraient tourner aussi bien l'un que l'autre sur une même machine...
J'ai aussi un P4 2.3Ghz  sans HT, 512Mo Ram que j'ai monté pour les enfants (en fait, c'est en montant cet ordinateur il y a un mois que j'ai eu la piqûre Linux et que j'ai flushé XP à tout jamais de mon ordinateur) et les effets de bureau (cube, gélatine etc.) sont parfaitement fluide, même si les programmes sont plus long à loader (normal, 512Mo de RAM)   Donc je m,'explique mal la moins grande fluidité de Kubuntu sur une machine plus performante...

J'ai fait le test avec le pilote 185 et ça a planté.  Erreur d'affichage au démarrage.  Ce n'est pas le bon pilote pour moi!  Sur le site de nVidia, ils recommandent le 173, celui que j'avais.

Si quelqu'un à d'autres bonne idées?  Je commence à penser sérieusement que c'est un problème de puissance d'ordinateur...  J'ai fait un test sur Ubuntu Gnome.  J'ai lancé un tas d'applications sur tous les bureau et j'ai commencé à "lagger" un peu comme sous KDE.  Sur KDE, je lance seulement Amarok et c'est déjà beaucoup moins fluide.

Chaque chose en son temps, d'abord effectue cette commande afin d'identifier ton GPU:

Non. Tu liras ici ou là que GNOME consomme moins que KDE et que GNOME est donc plus adapté sur les ordis moins véloce. Ce n'est pas vrai, comme je l'ai déjà dit sur ma OpenSuse ou ma Chakra (sur KDE donc), je consomme moins de RAM et mon CPU est moins utilisée que sur Ubuntu ou Fedora (GNOME).

Quand a KDE moins "performant" sur ton ordi, pourquoi ne pas réduire quelques effets de bureau?

Dans le fond mon interrogation porte sur Ubuntu vs Kubuntu (et non pas Gnome vs KDE, je me suis mal exprimé smile ).  Je croyais que les deux étaient également adaptés aux ordis moins véloces comme le mien.  Si ce n'est pas le cas, si c'est normal que tous les logiciels soient un peu plus lent à démarrer et les effets de bureau plus saccadés sur Kubuntu avec mon ordinateur, je verrai.
Le but de ma discussion est un peu de vérifier tout ça... avec l'espoir que quelqu'un trouve le petit quelque chose à quelque part qui "ralenti" Kubuntu sur mon PC ...

Tu devrais , je pense, consulter le log (dmesg) de démarrage. Peut être as tu un périphérique qui mets du temps à s'iniltialiser et être reconnu par ton système. Dans ce cas, il y a des appels système répétés jusqu'à ce que..
C'est le cas chez moi pour ce qui concerne des disques SATA.....et du coup, le démarrage est plombé d'au moins 20 à 30 sec supplémentaires

Pour le log de démarrage, est-ce que vous pouvez me dire où le trouver?

En cherchant, j'ai trouvé ces infos sur mon système.  Je sais pas si ça peut aiguiller quelqu'un...

1-Dans KSystemLog, pour X.org, il y a ce message qui semble récurrent:
    Information    [ 81950.958] Warning: Xalloc: requesting unpleasantly large amount of memory: 0 bytes.
2-Dans KinfoCenter, dans les infos sur la mémoire, je vois que seulement  200Mo de mon 1.5Go est libre 13% (avec aucun programme ouvert sauf Firefox et le Kinfocenter)
3- Par contre dans Surveillance du système, c'est environ 650 Mo sur 1.5 Go qui semble utilisé (donc pas mal plus que 200Mo de libre.. ça semble contradictoire).  De plus, dans  l'historique du processeur, ça se tient à environ 20% et dès que j'ouvre une fenêtre ou brasse un peu une fenêtre, ça monte à 80%-100%.
