Comment savoir dans quel partition se trouve Grub?

Non !! dans le fichier /boot/grub/menu.lst tu a :

gfxmenu (hd0,5) /boot/grub/message.snow

et il faut avoir

gfxmenu (hd0,5)/boot/grub/message.snow

la différence c'est que dans ta ligne de code tu à un espace entre (hd0,5) et /boot/grub/message.snow c'est à dire :

gfxmenu (hd0,5)"ESPACE"/boot/grub/message.snow

il faut éliminer cet espace !!

J'ai bien vu il n'ya pas d'espace , tout est bien correct apparement , voici le fichier regardez si tout est bien correct:

Pour la commande que vous m'avez donner pour trouvez dans quel partition se trouve Grub ça affiche le message suivant:

Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time.

Je suis resté au moin 5min, apparement c'est toujours entrain de chercher.

Super ça marche parce-que c'était (hd0,4):D mais un autre gros probléme:( , c'est que l'option windows a disparue il n'ya que ubuntu , je ne peut plus choisir windows XP.

j'ai rencontré le même problème que ali90, la partition win n'est pas reconnue lorsque menu.lst est généré automatiquement.

il faut coller manuellement la section qui concerne windows... je vais de ce pas rajouter une section dans le wiki

Quelqu'un a réussi à faire fonctionner savedefault avec gfxboot, car je n'arrive pas à trouver ?
Si je désactive la ligne gfxmenu cela fonctionne mais une fois active plus de savedefault.

Idem, j'ai l'impression que savedefault ne fonctionne pas dans la version gfxboot.

J'utilisais déjà gfx-grub sous Dapper et je n'ai jamais eu un seul problème. Par contre là je fais face à un problème sous Feisty. En effet quand j'en viens au moment d'installer grub voilà ce qu'il se passe :

$ sudo grub-install hd0

$ df

J'ai essayé toutes mes methodes possibles, je bloque.
Voici le detail de tout ec que j'ai fais.

J'ai telecharger ce theme : http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Dark+Grey+Ubuntu+GFXBoot+Theme?content=43166

Puis je l'ai extrait j'obtiens :
"message.ubugrey"

J'installe gfxboot, je desinstalle grub, puis j'installe grub-gfxboot

Je tape dans un terminal

grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
 (hd0,2)

Alors je tape :

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Je tape aussi :

sudo mv /home/user/Desktop/message.ubugrey /boot/grub/message.snow

Je rajoute la ligne :

gfxmenu (hd0,2)/boot/grub/message.snow

Donc je fais :

[lokomass@lokomass-desktop:~]$ sudo grub-install hd0
/usr/sbin/grub-install: 272: Syntax error: redirection unexpected

J'ai donc essayé de changer hd0 en plein de trucs mais l'erreur est toujours la meme.
J'ai trouvé aussi l'autre methode qui consiste a faire :

grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
 (hd0,2)

grub> root (hd0,2)
 Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

grub> setup (hd0)
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes

Bref ca ne fonctionne pas j'arrive au bout

Recemment, il a du faire une mise à jour, et s'est mis en tete de renommer mes entrées Ubuntu en entrées Debian... Un gros n'importe quoi, j'ai pas trop compris pourquoi.

il ne faut pas oublier que ubuntu est une debian et puis ça prend 2mn pour renomer l'entrée

Certainement, faut juste voir à ce que ça le refasse pas tout le temps... et puis, comment savoir si ce n'est pas que la partie émergeante de l'iceberg, et que ya pas plein de problèmes partout ? Quand ce genre de chose survient à l'improviste, ya de quoi être surpris quand même..

Mais, je ne regrette quand même rien parce que gfxboot, c'est quand même achement plus joli

ah mais si ! ça le fait a chaque mise à jour du noyau . mais ça n'entaîne aucun problème de fonctionnement.
y a bien une façon de contourner le problème mais c'est assez compliqué (niveau utilisateur averti).
il faut faire une partition de boot séparée avec des entrées chainloadées

A supposer que je veuille installer un 2e Ubuntu, sur une partition déjà existante (ya une debian etch dessus, et j'ai envie de tester feisty sans mettre mon système par terre).

Commnet faire pour lui demander de ne pas effacer grub ? De laisser le grub déjà en place et d'ajouter juste une entrée pour lui même ?

ben justement utiliser le chainload http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=55813
et installer le bootloader de la 2ième distri sur sa partition racine(ça c'est assez simple)
