Une solution pour un winmodem 56k SVP

Bonjour,
je viens d'installer ubuntu et fais mes premiers pas dans le monde de linux.
Malheureusement, mon modem (3com-56k) n'est pas reconnu par le système.
J'ai effectué quelques recherches sur le net pour résoudre ce problème mais je n'arrive pas à trouver de solution...
Le constructeur m'a informé qu'il n'exitait pas, à ce jour, de pilote compatible linux pour ce modèle.
Y'a-t-il une solution ?

Je crois avoir déjà essayé pas mal de trucs mais je n'y arrives pas !
j'ai installé wvdial, gnome-ppp...
J'ai testé d'autres pilotes...
Rien à faire !
SVP si quelqu'un a une solution ?J'ai trouvé un paquet .rpm .
Puis-je l'installer sur la debian ?

je crois qu'il y a d'autres topics sur le sujet (>bouton "Recherche")
... as-tu essayé cette méthode indiquée dans le guide?
- identifier le chipset d'un modem: http://fr.ubuntuguide.org/#identifymodemchipset
- installer un driver pour modem: http://fr.ubuntuguide.org/#installsmartlinkdriver

... j'avais essayé à l'époque avec un winmodem interne.. j'ai finalement abandonné pour utiliser un modem 56k externe (et là ça fonctionnait du premier coup!)...

Je te conseille l'utilisation de gnome-ppp dans tous les cas. Bonne chance...

j'ai déjà testé scammodem.
je viens d'essayé l'installeur mas il me réclame des paquets.(sl-modem-modules;sl-modem-sources;kernel-images-2.6)
j'essaye de le trouver et de les installer.
si cela marche, ce serait génial cool

[edit] oulà ! ça n'a pas l'air d'être aussi simple. D'après ce que j'ai pu comprendre il faut que je compile moi-même le noyau sad
Enfin, je vais essayer...
J'ai vraiment envie d'utiliser ubuntu mais cette histoire de modem me bride, passer de win à linux pour download les packages n'est vraiment pas confortable !

Alors si quelqu'un pouvait m'éclairer parce que malgré toute ma bonne volonté et mes recherches, j'y arrives pas ! sad

tu n'as pas à compiler le noyau (enfin je ne pense pas).

Pour télécharger les packages, va sur http://packages.ubuntu.com/
Télécharge les .deb
Ensuite, sous Ubuntu, tu peux les installer a la mano via

sudo dpkg -i nom_paquet.deb

la ligne de commande pour installer les paquets, je commence à maitriser. (cela doit être la seule d'ailleurs)
j'ai compris aussi le fonctionnement d'alien pour les paquets non-debian mais malgré tous mes efforts, le winmodem n'est pas reconnu.
Par contre le cat /proc/pci ne marche pas mais le scanmodem m'a donné les réfs du modem.
J'ai trouvé un 3com56k.rpm que j'ai "aliené" en .deb, puis dpkg -i mais toujours rien !
J'ai cru comprendre qu'il fallait justement compiler le noyau pour forcer le système à identifier le winmodem mais l'opération a l'air hardue !

Je ne sais pas ce que sont les "linux-restricted-modules".
Je télécharge la version i386 et je vais tester cela.
Le problème c'est que j'essaye tellement de choses que je suis perdu !
Mais je m'acharne, il n'y a pas de raison que cela ne marche pas.

Alors voilà, ça ne marche toujours pas , le modem n'est pas reconnu !
Vous allez me dire que comme ça je peaufine ma syntaxe linuxienne et vous n'aurez pas tort, mes premiers pas dans le monde de l'o.s. libre n'en seront que plus profitables, je vous l'accorde.
Mais outre cette expérience fort enrichissante, j'aimerais aller plus loin et si la solution est de compiler son propre noyau et bien soit, je tenterais l'expérience.
Seulement, ma connaissance de la langue anglaise étant restée au niveau de ma scolarité, c'est-à-dire pas très loin, j'ai un peu de mal à comprendre le modus operandi d'une telle opération.
Si quelqu'un ayant déjà effectué cette manoeuvre a l'envie de m'expliquer un peu plus en détail comment je dois procéder, je le remercie, par avance et vivement (et peut-être même plus si affinités...)

Ah, aussi : je n'arrives pas à activer le linux-restricted-modules. (modprobe ?)

hy, as tu essayé de scanner tous les ports modem avec wvdial :

sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

. si oui envoi nous le resultat .

Il doit y avoir un petit problème car cela donne ça :

et si ça fonctionne ton modem va "dialer" et tester toutes les commandes AT et tu devrais voir ton modem a la fin de la liste : Found a modem on /dev/ttyS0 (si ton modem est sur un port COM, et ttyUSB sur un port usb ).

et surtout n'hésite pas à lire la page de manuel de wvdial :

man wvdial

,mais il faut etre ami avec la langue de shakespeare wink

Il te dit quoi exactement le log ScanModem ?

Tu sembles parler de "slmodem" ci c'est effectivement le driver qu'il te faut essaye de compiler celui que tu trouveras ici > http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ .

Il supporte ce type de modem :

    * Riser: HAMR5600, SmartRiser56, SmartRiser561 - CNR/ACR/AMR/MDC/MiniPCI 
    * PCI: SmartPCI56, SmartPCI561, SmartPCI562, SmartPCI563, SmartLAN56
    * USB: SmartUSB56

En espérant que cela aidera un peu...

Il vaudrait mieux repartir de zéro (déinstaller au besoin) et commencer par le début : scanModem -- voir le lien ci-dessus. 

Les info sur ModemData.txt nous aiderons à y voir clair.

Alors, petit résumé de la situation :
j'ai formatté, réinstallé ubuntu, fait comme dans le tuto ci-dessus...
et toujours rien... hmm
je crois que je vais abandonner et rechercher un modem compatible et pas cher.(je n'ai pas encore payé celui-ci ! )

Si quelqu'un a des adresses, faites m'en profiter cool (ou en vend un parce que passé à l'adsl...)
Aussi, comment reconnaitre dans les spécifications techniques s'il s'agit ou non d'un winmodem ?

Mais je ne lâche pas ubuntu ! Je continuerais mon voyage win<->linux pour charger les paquets et autres...
