dell dimension 2400 : activer une autre carte graphique ?

Bonjour,
j'ai voulu installer ubuntu sur le dell dimension 2400 d'une amie, au lieu de son XP qui commençait à faiguer.
Bien mal m'en a pris.
La carte graphique intégrée à la CM est un chipset intel 845, qui marche très très mal sous Ubuntu ou Xubuntu (freezes, cpu qui tape à 100%,..)

J'ai donc acheté une carte PCI (oui pci pas pcie ni agp, il n'y a que cette possibilité sur ce dell), ati rage 128.
celle ci est reconnue, mais il m'est impossible de lui faire afficher quoique ce soit.
Et pour faciliter la tâche, il est impossible de désactiver la carte intégrée dans le bios, c est soit "auto" ,soit "onboard".
si je mets "auto", aucune carte ne marche (écran noir dès le démarrage de l'ordi)
je suis donc obligé de la laisser sur "onboard".

j'ai également tenté de créer un fichier xorg.conf, avec ceci :

après avoir viré le xorg.conf, dans les logs d'X11, il y avait ceci  :

Quelle est la version d'Ubuntu?

Cette carte graphique: ati rage 128, ou celle-ci: chipset intel 845, bof bof bof sur un Ubuntu récent. Mais bon, je peux me tromper.....


OS: Ubuntu 22.04 64 bits + Windows 11 64 bits en dualboot (BIOS UEFI, Secure Boot activé et table de partitions GPT)
PC portable HP 17-CP0308NF   Processeur: AMD Ryzen 7 5700U avec carte graphique AMD Lucienne intégrée au processeur.   Mémoire vive: 16 Go RAM
Quand vous ne trouvez pas la solution à un problème, cherchez des pistes menant à la solution !

merci pour les réponses.
sioc > merci pour la page, je ne l'avais pas vu... je regarderai ça ce soir...
mais j'ai bien peur d'être obligé de bidouiller un xorg.conf...
(impossibilité de désactiver l'intel dans le bios, donc je pense que l'ati n'affichera jamais le bios... mais bon, si on trouve le moyen de dire à ubuntu d'utiliser l'ati ça sera déjà ça...)

Sinon, j'avais quand même fait qqes recherches avant d'acheter l'ati , et je n'ai pas trouvé de problème sous ubuntu contrairement à l'intel 845 pour laquelle il n'y a pas de solution, il me semble... Je l'ai acheté pour que son ordi arrête de planter...

j'ai donc remplacé driver = "ati" par driver ="r128" dans mon xorg.conf (le même que celui du 1er message)

l'ordi redémarre sur le mauvais écran (celui branché sur l'intel) , mais pas d'écran noir.
il a zappé la R128 et est passé sur l'intel :

bon, avec ce paramètre en plus, il redémarre avec un écran noir sur le moniteur de l'intel.
(celui sur la carte ATI n'a jamais affiché quoique ce soit...)

bon, après modification, ça redémarre mais il refuse de faire fonctionner l'ati comme avant.
"no devices detected" après avoir chargé le driver.

j'ai fini par faire un Xorg -configure , qui m'a donc généré un fichier xorg.conf (malheureusement pas fonctionnel, le -configure se terminant par un message d'erreur type "number of created screens doesn't match number of detected devices".
j'ai donc édité ce fichier, commenté les screens 1 ,2 et 3, les monitors 1,2 et 3 et la carte intel.
