Après cette nouvelle installation, et avant d'appliquer les évolutions proposées ici, je te prie de faire un Boot-Info depuis une session de ton Ubuntu installé et de donner l'URL de ce Boot-Info dans té réponse : je voudrais vérifier que tout est bien installé

Bonjour, d'abord toutes mes excuses pour le temps de réaction, j'ai eu du boulot à gérer entretemps.

Je suis en train de rédiger un compte rendu de l'installation, mais je ne posterai ça qu'une fois tout terminé, histoire que ce soit le plus complet possible.

Concernant les problèmes restants:
-je n'ai donc pas fait les manip dont parle malbo dans le post #26, du moins pas à partir de l'étape 9, qui avait fait crasher mon système. Je ne sais pas si cela a un lien, mais j'ai un petit souci d'affichage, tout est écrit particulièrement petit. J'ai compensé en utilisant unity tweak tools et une extension pour firefox, mais ce n'est toujours pas parfait, et c'est sûrement une solution un peu bancale.
-second souci, la durée de vie de la batterie (au sens du temps où l'ordinateur tient sous batterie) a chuté de plus de 8h sous windows avant installation d'ubuntu à moins de 3h maintenant sous ubuntu. Aucune idée de pourquoi, si c'est lié au dual boot ou autre.

N'oubliez pas de régler votre BIOS pour qu'il amorce sur le disque sda (32.0GB) !

Si votre ordinateur redémarre directement sur Windows, essayez de changer l'ordre de démarrage dans votre BIOS.
Si votre BIOS ne permet pas de changer l'ordre de démarrage, changez l'entrée de démarrage par défaut de l'amorceur Windows.

C'est trop beau. Là j'ai bien honte de ma réaction du post #13 : je m'étais fait pipi dessus alors qu'il y avait moyen de réussir et tu l'as fait.
Il va falloir que tu règles le problème de la durée de vie de la batterie de 3H sous Ubuntu. Pour ce faire, je t'encourage à demander de l'aide sur le forum spécialisé "Affichage et cartes graphiques" parce qu'il est très probable que ce soit la gestion de l'affichage qui pompe toute la batterie. Il faudra bien que tu mentionnes que tu as adopté une option par défaut du noyau : c'est nomodeset comme on peut voir dans cet extrait de ton Boot-Info :

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"

Je pense que les experts de l'affichage te demanderont de supprimer cette option par défaut (on utilise en général nomodeset en attendant d'installer les "bons" pilotes graphiques).

EDIT : je suis allé voir à l'endroit que tu as indiqué dans ton post #10 et j'en ai retiré le descriptif technique de ton modèle (que j'ai un peu élagué) :

N'ai pas honte, je n'aurais certainement pas pu y arriver sans toi (et au demeurant, c'est aussi parce que j'ai vu que tu préférais la prudence plutôt que de m'engager dans une voie dont tu ne pourrais pas me sortir que j'ai pu te faire confiance)!

Je m'en vais donc demander des conseils sur une autre partie du forum pour le reste, j'ai bien pris note des précisions importantes. Je passerai le sujet en résolu dès que j'aurai terminé de faire le bilan (pour l'instant j'ai du taf, donc ce ne sera sans doute pas avant demain soir).

OK tu m'as démasqué : j'ai testé sur toi ma nouvelle technique de manipulation mentale du novice. Blague à part, il est possible que les experts du domaine de l'affichage aient des difficultés pour améliorer les choses parce que ton matos est très très récent. Je maintiens néanmoins ce que j'ai proféré plus haut : un jour Ubuntu gérera parfaitement ton ordi. Mais quand ?

Un dernier mot donc, pour récapituler la procédure d'installation utilisée, afin que d'autres puissent la reproduire:

Ma config:
MARQUE / MODELE: DELL XPS 15 (9550)

PROCESSEUR : Intel Core i5-6300HQ

MEMOIRE VIVE : 8 GO RAM   

DISQUE DUR 1To + SSD 32Go

CARTE GRAPHIQUE : NVIDIA GTX 960M

SYSTEME : WINDOWS 10

Procédure d'installation suivie:

1) Télécharger Ubuntu 15.10, et créer une clé USB d'amorçage.
2) Lancer l'ordinateur sous Windows et désactiver l'accélération du SSD :
dans le menu démarrer, entrer « intel » dans la barre de recherche. Sélectionner « Intel storage technology ». Une fenêtre s'ouvre. Cliquer sur le second onglet. Désactiver l'accélération du disque SSD et supprimer le volume qui va avec.
3) Désactiver la veille prolongée de Windows :
taper cmd dans le menu démarrer. Clic droit → exécuter en tant qu'administrateur. Entrer la commande « powercfg.exe /hibernate off » et valider avec Entrée. Puis « exit » et valider à nouveau pour fermer la fenêtre.
4) Faire de la place pour Ubuntu : Démarrer → panneau de configuration → système et sécurité → outils d'administration → gestion de l'ordinateur → stockage → gestion des disques → clic droit sur la partition C → réduire → garder la taille proposée, c'est-à-dire le maximum.
5) Changements dans le BIOS :
redémarrer l'ordinateur, en branchant la clé USB Ubuntu. À l'apparition du logo Dell, appuyer sur F2 pour ouvrir le BIOS. Changer l'ordre d'amorçage pour booter sur la clé. Dans le second onglet→ SATA operations → passer en mode AHCI. Valider le message d'avertissement.
6) Enregistrer, et sortir du BIOS. Le Grub devrait apparaître, appuyer sur e. Dans la ligne commençant par linux, changer « quiet splash » par « nomodeset ». appuyer sur F10 pour relancer le Grub. Choisir « Try Ubuntu » pour lancer une live session. Si le touchpad ne fonctionne pas, brancher une souris USB, on s'en occupera plus tard.
7) Créer les partions : lancer Gparted. Sur le disque /dev/sda (le SSD), créer une nouvelle table de partition, puis une nouvelle partition prenant toute la place au format ext4. Sur le disque /dev/sdb (le HDD), utiliser l'espace dégagé à côté de windows pour créer une partition de swap (pour ma part j'ai mis 2 Mo en voulant en mettre 2 Go...), et une partition au format ext4 (avec le reste, pour ma part environ 450 Go). Ne pas oublier d'appliquer les changements, et fermer Gparted.
8) Lancer l'installation depuis la live-session. Au moment de choisir comment installer, sélectionner « autre chose ». Allouer la partition du SSD à la racine (point de montage : « / »), celle du swap au swap, et la grosse partition du HDD au home (point de montage « /home »). Lancer l'installation, et se laisser guider.
9) une fois l'installation terminée, redémarrer en retirant la clé (éventuellement vérifier dans le BIOS qu'Ubuntu est en premier choix pour le boot) et ne pas oublier de modifier à nouveau le Grub (cf étape 6). Modifier définitivement le Grub via le terminal :

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

changer « quiet splash » par « nomodeset »
10) si nécessaire, rétablir la bonne marche du touchpad via les commandes suivantes :

lsmod | grep i2c
echo "blacklist i2c_hid" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
sudo depmod -a
sudo update-initramfs -u
reboot

Reste un souci graphique que je n'ai pas encore réglé (tout apparaît très petit, sans doute à cause de la résolution qu'on ne peut pas changer, et la batterie diminue beaucoup trop vite, ce qui est sans doute lié).

Voilà, j'espère que cela sera utile à d'autres, je passe en résolu, et encore merci à Malbo!

Je n'avais pas vu ça. Du coup, c'est comme si tu n'avais pas de swap du tout tellement la taille est ridiculement faible. Mais avec 8 Go de RAM, tu n'auras jamais besoin de swap donc tu peux laisser les choses en l'état.

Pas de souci, quelqu'un a commencé à m'aider. Par ailleurs le souci graphique est énervant mais pas fondamental, je peux travailler en l'état. Pour ce qui est du swap je m'étais dit la même chose

Le dual boot fonctionne, j'avoue que je n'ai plus tout en tête, mais le suivi du post #33 devrait te permettre de tout avoir comme moi, à condition d'installer la 15.10. Si je ne me trompa pas, une nouvelle version est sortie depuis (ou va sortir très bientôt), je ne sais pas ce qu'il en est.

Le problème de la prise en charge d'optimus n'est pas réglé en revanche, ce qui a pour résultat (en tout cas je suppose que c'est le problème) une batterie pas très endurante (2 à 3h d'autonomie). Je n'ai pas le temps de m'en occuper en ce moment, mais tu peux aller voir ici:  http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1984839 si cela peut t'aider à trouver des solutions.

@typc : j'attire ton attention sur un point important par rapport au dual-boot : toi tu as un "SSD capacité 1To et de type PCI.E NVME" alors que l'ordi de francois51 (qui est pourtant le même modèle que le tien) est équipé d'un SSD SATA LITEON CS1-SP32 et d'un disque dur SATA WDC WD10SPCX-75K (j'ai trouvé ces références dans le Boot-Info du post #28. Ce que je veux dire, c'est que francois51 peut te donner des tuyaux pour d'autres fonctionnalités du Dell XP 15 9550 mais pour ce qui est du dual-boot, il ne peut pas t'aider.

Je viens apporter mon grain de sel pour cette belle machine, qui souffre de sa modernité, afin de pouvoir informer d'autres aventuriers comme nous

J'ai donc un Dell XPS 15 9550, version FHD avec i7, 16 GB de RAM et un SSD PCi.E NVME de 512 Gb
Depuis le temps il me semble que le BIOS a été mis à jour par DELL

Je me suis lancé dans l'installation d'Ubuntu 16.04 après avoir lu de moult fois le post de francois51 et lui avoir demandé d'autres trucs; et ça a fonctionné.

- Ce que j'ai fait de différent (outre une version de cet ordi différente et une version d'Ubuntu + moderne) :
* je n'ai pas trouvé à désactiver l'Intel Smart Technology5) 
* j'ai bien changé dans le BIOS le AHCI, ce qui me premet que l'installateur "voit" le SSD et qu'Ubuntu marche, MAIS Windows ne fonctionne plus.
* je n'ai pas utilisé le mode nomodeset

J'ai bien désactiver le fastboot et le secureboot

- Ce qui s'est passé de différent :
* l'installation s'est passé sans accroc
* je ne parviens pas à utiliser Windows avec l'AHCI. Pour  cela je change dans le BIOS le SATA en AHCI/RAID ON si je veux utiliser Ubuntu ou Windows.
* pas de souci graphique pour l'instant. Mias je ne sais pas comment est prise en charge la carte graphique par Ubuntu, et je n'ai pas eu à en utiliser jusque là, je remonterai les informations plus tard.
