Un peu d'histoire : pour la version long terme précédente, la 14.04.1 était sortie le 24 Juillet 2014 et le gestionnaire de mise à jour ne la proposait toujours pas le 7 Août 2014 à ceux qui étaient équipés de la LTS précédente 12.04 (voir ici) et d'après quelques posts sur le forum ubuntu-fr (dont celui-là) je crois que cette mise à jour niveau de 12.04 vers 14.04 a seulement été proposée par le Gestionnaire de mises à jour le 12 Août 2014.

Plus de 50 ans d'informatique, ça en fait des lignes de commandes en console, mais on n'avait pas le choix...
Excellente raison pour, aujourd'hui qu'on le peut, utiliser au maximum les INTERFACES GRAPHIQUES !

Un petit essai simple pour vérifier si la situation évolue :
Depuis votre session Ubuntu 14.04, passez la commande suivante (l'option -c permet de vérifier seulement la possibilité de faire la mise à niveau mais elle ne la lance pas. C'est pas dangereux, c'est juste pour voir) : 

sudo do-release-upgrade -c

Actuellement, le résultat de cette commande est : 

Recherche d'une nouvelle version d'Ubuntu
Aucune nouvelle version trouvée

Le jour où la mise à niveau officielle 14.04 vers 16.04 sera possible (on espère avant la mi-août), le résultat devrait être : 

Recherche d'une nouvelle version d'Ubuntu
Nouvelle version « 16.04 LTS » disponible.
Lancer « do-release-upgrade » pour mettre à niveau vers celle-ci.

Après ça, vous pourrez au choix lancer la mise à niveau par la commande proposée en mettant "sudo" devant. C'est à dire par cette commande (conformément à la doc) : 

sudo do-release-upgrade

Ou bien vous préférerez passer par le Gestionnaire de mises à jour (mais ce n'est pas plus avantageux que par la ligne de commande à mon avis)

Merci Malbo pour l'historique. C'est juste une question d'impatience... En plus, c'est les vacances, on pourrait en profiter pour faire les MAJ.
Ubuntu donne une date de sortie (21 juillet) sans préciser que la situation est différente selon la version que vous avez installée sur votre pc.

Un fidèle, depuis la 8.04.

J'aurais bien choisi cette solution, mais comme je suis en dual boot avec Win7 (et que je voudrais le garder), j'ai vraiment peur de mettre la pagaille avec les partitions, le Grub, etc..D'autant que j'ai pas mal galéré au début pour avoir le dual boot W7/Kubuntu.

la nouvelle version est effectivement disponible, mais lorsque je lance un 

do-release-upgrade

l'installation ne se fait pas et la version 14.04 est restaurée. J'obtiens en fin de listing l'information suivante :

Ceci peut-être dû à :

* la version de développement d'Ubuntu est actuellement utilisée ; 
* des paquets logiciels non officiels, non fournis par Ubuntu. 

Si rien de tout cela ne s'applique, veuillez signaler ce bogue en 
utilisant la commande « ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core » 
dans un terminal.

Je précise que j'avais également en milieu de listing l'information suivante :

Bonjour,
Je suis nouvelle sur le forum mais j'utilise Kubuntu depuis 2 ans maintenant (qui fonctionnait parfaitement bien),
La mise à niveau vers la version 16.4 s'est bien déroulée (j'ai gardé mes fichiers, mes dossiers de navigations) mais malheureusement, à l'utilisation, il y a beaucoup de bugs.
Je ne sais pas par où commencer et je regrette amèrement de ne pas avoir attendu.

Pour chaque bug, crée une nouvelle discussion dans la section appropriée du forum. Par exemple, si c'est un bug lié à l'affichage (écran qui se fige à certain moment et qui t'oblige à un redémarrage de sauvage, impossibilité d'éteindre l'ordi et/ou sortie de veille impossible) crée une discussion dans la section Affichage et cartes graphiques. Il faut remettre tes ppa (dans sources.list.d) et ton sources.list d'aplomb.
Si tu utilises la 14.04, il ne doit y avoir que des adresses de dépôts pour Trusty.
Donne les retours de :

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*

Avant de faire une mise à niveau, perso, je supprime (ou commente) les ppa, repasse en pilote libre (si proprio utilisé), effectue toutes les mises à jours de ma version.
S'il y a un souci avec la version utilisée, régler le problème avant mise à niveau, sinon on le retouvera sans doute amplifié.

mise à niveau ce matin via Muon, tout semblait s'être bien passé mais au redémarrage, écran noir. Tout fonctionne en console, mais pas d'interface graphique ...

J'ai mis les sources telles que celles que Michel indique... mais cela ne change rien au problème...

Les sources sont réduites au basique du basique et rien ne passe. La version 16.04-1 n'est pas prête pour un passage d'une LTS à une autre LTS. Encore un peu de patience donc.

Dans le gestionnaire de configuration des sources de logiciels, j'ai décoché tout ce qui n'était pas "trusty". Il ne me reste donc que 5 ppa cochés. J'ai ensuite fait une mise à jour, tout s'est bien passé. Mais la mise à niveau ne marche toujours pas, aussi bien dans le gestionnaire qu'en ligne de commande 

sudo do-release-upgrade

. Ludo92 a certainement raison, il doit enore falloir attendre pour la LTS 16.04-1, mais bon cela me surprend un peu quand même.
