problème avec thunderbird sur version 14.04 LTS

Bonjour
J'ai un packard bell de 2014. A l'époque ou je l'ai eu, j'ai installé ubuntu 14.04LTS. Après moultes galères, je suis passé a la version 16.04LTS. Ca a marché plus ou moins, a cause de probleme de pilotes non dispo. J'ai voulu install 18.04LTS en mise a niveau proposée avec mise a jour mais la catastrophe. Gros bug et obligé de l'amener chez un réparateur local qui m'a expliqué que cette version n'est pas compatible avec mon ordi (toujours les pilotes). Il a remis 14.04LTS, qui fonctionne bien , mais thunderbird ne veux plus plus ouvrir mes nouveaux messages. Depuis je m'en passe, mais il me servait beaucoup et j'aimerais que qqu'un m'aide pour une réinstallation de thunderbird qui marche. J'ai essayé de le réinstaller plusieurs fois mais pas moyen...

Pour désinstaller une application, il ne suffit pas de la désinstaller. Il faut aussi supprimer dans le /home les données de configuration. Dans un premier temps, tu fais apparaître dans l'explorateur de fichiers (Nautilus) les fichiers cachés avec Ctrl + h (pour hidden) Tu verras apparaître le dossier ".thunderbird" avec un point devant. Tu le renommes (avec la touche F2) .thunderbird_vieux et tu installes Thunderbird, tu le lances, et il te demandera tous tes paramètres de courrier en espérant que tu les as. Ça va te créer un nouveau profil.
Si ça marche il te restera à supprimer le .thunderbird_vieux.
Voili voilou.

Excusez-moi d'intervenir mais je ne suis pas sûr que la solution proposée soit la bonne. En effet, en "éliminant" le dossier ~/.thunderbird, qui contient le profil, tu perdras toutes tes données personnelles (les paramétrages des comptes, les mots de passe, les mails qui auraient pu être enregistrés sur des dossiers locaux, ...).
Le fait de renommer ton profil ne changera rien quant à tes difficultés pour installer TBird.

D'ailleurs, pourquoi vouloir installer un logiciel qui fait partie du package fourni ? L'as-tu supprimé ?
Pourrais-tu décrire les manip que tu as faites ?

Et rien n'empêche ensuite de récupérer les fichiers utiles de l'ancien profil vers le nouveau.

Effectivement, c'est pour ça que j'ai mis le mot entre parenthèses. Cela dit, nulle part tu évoques la possibilité de récupérer quoi que ce soit :

S'il suit littéralement tes indications, une fois que TBird démarre et qu'il a renseigné ses paramètres de comptes, il supprime le profil... risquant ainsi de perdre notamment des courriels. Nulle part tu lui indiques de récupérer des données dans ce profil. Comme il y a un risque de perte de données, je me suis humblement permis d'intervenir.
Et enfin, comme je l'ai dit plus haut, le fait de ne pas réussir à installer TBird, n'a très certainement rien à voir avec le profil.

Désolé d'avoir trainé pour répondre. Ca n'a pas fonctionné... les messages entrant n'apparaissent pas... j'y ai cru quand même.
J'ai perdu des mails (pratiquement toute l'année 2018) mais ca date d'avant les dernières recommandations. Donc pas de soucis, enfin pas trop...
Je n'ai pas supprimer thunderbird au début. Le gars réparateur m'a réinstaller ubuntu et depuis , pas moyen de retrouver les fonctionnalités d'avant. J'ai donc désinstallé, réinstallé... je suis pas trop dans la partie donc je bricole et je fais sans doute des conneries...
Ah oui c'est bien un mail laposte.net!
J'ai essayé la commande

mais ca donne rien...

En fait, d'après ce que tu avais écrit, je pensais que tu ne réussissais pas à installer TBird.
La commande que je t'ai donnée servait juste à savoir si TBird était installé ou pas... apparemment il l'est.

Pourrais-tu donner le retour de :

ls -l ~/.thunderbird

Mon enquête est parallèle (le pourquoi la 18.04 ne passerait pas)
Tes dépôts sont propres, ton ordi a une bonne RAM (cela dit, Ubuntu sera lourde avec plusd'1.2Go de Ram de conso)
Quelle est ta carte graphique ? quel processeur ?
Quels soucis de pilotes as-tu rencontré ?

C'est ça :

En fait, quand tu lances la commande :

thunderbird -p

il faut que TBird soit complètement quitté (et qu'il ne tourne pas en arrière plan).

Étant donné que tu as 2 profils *.default, je t'ai demandé de lancer le gestionnaire de profil afin de savoir quels noms y sont indiqués. Cela dit, je ne pense qu'il ait grand-chose dans chacun de ces 2 profils, vu leurs tailles identiques de 4096 o.

I'ordi est un ENLE 118Z packard bell. Je sais pas vraiment quelle est la carte graphique ni le processeur ... désolé... mais c'est tout d'origine.
Pour les pilotes, je me souviens d'avoir galéré un temps avec un pilote Nvidia je crois (mais c'est du chinois pour moi). Mon réparateur ma seulement affirmé que les pilotes n'etait pas fournis par le constructeur pour les nouvelles versions ubuntu... 16.04 et 18.04, donc il a remis 14.04
J'ai un peu honte de mon ignorance concernant le coeur de cette machine... mais c'est pas trop mon truc, même si je préfére largement ubuntu au reste ...

Que dois je faire avec le gestionnaire? Je ferme thunderbird, aprés je lance thunderbird -p sur le terminal, puis start thunderbird?

Qu'y a t-il d'indiqué dans la fenêtre du gestionnaire, le nom des profils ?

Ensuite, via le gestionnaire de profil, il te faut ouvrir TBird sur profil pour voir ce qu'il y a dedans puis sur l'autre. Ainsi tu pourras voir s'il y les messages que tu as perdu dans l'un ou dans l'autre.
