Ecran gelé sur GRUB après install edgy LIVECD

Salut à tous,
Heureux utilisateur d'ubuntu depuis hoary, je me trouve confronté à un problème pour le moins bizarre.
Edgy etait installé sur un disque et windows sur un autre et tout se passait pour le mieux (grub installé sur le disque linux). Mais le jour de noel le disque linux décida de me lacher.:rolleyes: Je rachète donc le même disque que je mets en master.
Ma configuration est la suivante: 1 disque IDE (LINUX), 1 disque SATA (Windows) tous les 2 en master.
Le disque étant tout neuf au départ je crée donc lors de l'install d'edgy une partition ext3 de 50 G0 et une autre de 1.5GO pour le swa et le reste en fat32 comme partiton d'échange. L'install se déroule sans soucis mais lors du reboot l'écran se fige sur grub et puis plus rien...
J'ai essayé pas mal de trucs:

1) Enlever carte télé, carte wifi puis reinstaller

2)Enlever le cable ethernet puis réinstaller (on sait jamais avec les mises à jour xorg toussa )

3)Comparer les UUID de fstab et de /dev/disk/by-id

4)Ajouter le flag "boot" sur hda1

5)Tripoter Grub même si il aime pas trop ca. root (hd0,0) et setup (hd0,0) mais ca ne change rien
pas plus que : sudo grub-install /dev/hda ou /dev/hda1 ou '(hd0)' ou '(hd0,0)'

6)Faire tous les truc précédents et enlever le disque SATA et tout reinstaller mais rien n'y fait ca veut pas booter

le fstab ou il n'y a que le disque IDE vu que j'avais débranché le disque SATA lors de l'install

Voila c'est peut-être un peu long comme post mais ca vaut le coup
Je précise que edgy et ces ancêtres fonctionnaient parfaitement il y a encore quelques jours et là je ne sais plus quoi faire...
