Parfois c'est assez difficile de comprendre l'origine d'un problème informatique.
Il y a trop de config différentes et d'utilisateurs.

Si rien ne marche dans le cas de freeze du pc une possibilité est de tester les barrettes de mémoires avec memtest+86 par exemple. Tester les barrettes une par une

Je vois que ton problème dure depuis un bon moment.
Et si j'ai bien compris tu as Firefox qui freeze. J'ai eu ce problème et je suis passé à Brave
Finalement je ferais ceci :
- une install propre avec la version LTS
- ou une install avec la version 21.04 intérmédiaire
- ou tester une variante d'Ubuntu comme Budgie par exemple

Merci pour ton retour. Je réponds point par point :
- J'ai fait le test de la mémoire il y a longtemps, rien...
- Je crains que Firefox n'explique pas (à lui tout seul en tout cas) le problème. J'ai Brave, je vais essayer de plus l'utiliser
- j'ai déjà réinstallé complètement le système (20.04.2), ça n'a pas fonctionné, ce qui est assez étonnant
- je peux essayer d'upgrader en 21.04 (je ne connais pas Budgie).

Y a-t-il un moyen de tester la carte graphique ?

Il vaut mieux faire une install propre plutôt qu'un upgrade
Pour tester la carte graphique il faut un logiciel de benchmarking, mais je n'en connais pas sous ubuntu

Je n'ai pas formellement lié le problème à Firefox, c'est ce que kkwete suggérait dans le message #13.

Je note le conseil d'une réinstallation à partir de zéro plutôt qu'un mise à jour.

J'ai testé une mise en veille (bouton alimentation) après avoir fermé tous les programmes. Ça a fonctionné une fois mais la 2ème fois l'écran est resté noir et le ventilateur a commencé à mouliner.
Extinction brutale puis redémarrage laborieux (13:29), beaucoup de temps avant que l'explorateur de fichiers ne s'ouvre et que le VPN se connecte

Est-ce que ça pourrait poser problème même lorsque Firefox ne tourne pas ? (Mais est-il jamais complètement éteint ??)

Les messages d'erreur indiquent-ils des pistes ? (Je vois beaucoup d'erreurs de codec.)

J'ai également perdu le contrôle du volume par les touches Fn+FX suite à ce redémarrage (je le retrouve en général au redémarrage suivant).

J'ai désinstallé l'imprimante, ainsi que Firefox. Le problème persiste !

J'ai tenté de booter avec une clé sur Ubuntu 21.04. Des messages d'erreur et un écran qui fige également.

J'ai tenté avec Ubuntu mate 20.04.3 et avec Ubuntu 20.04.3. Ça fige pareil, avec un message d'erreur au démarrage un peu différent.

Le problème semble plus profond que je ne l'imaginais.

Peut-être pourrais-je remettre le BIOS à zéro ou à jour ? Comment puis-je procéder ?
Ou pourrait-il s'agir d'un problème matériel ?

Essaie ceci pour vérifier :

sudo dmesg | grep -i tpm

ça varie d'un bios à l'autre.
Sur un pc portable il faut entrer dans le bios et chercher un truc du genre Load defaults si l'option existe
Tu peux aussi te référer au manuel de la carte mère

J'ai fait l'action "load defaults" et désactivé certaines options (fast boot et tpm).

L'ordinateur a figé pendant les modifications de l'UEFI ! Est-ce que ça donne une indication sur la nature du problème ?

Voici le retour de la commande (il y avait plus de choses avant ces manip) :

Malheureusement, problème toujours pas résolu, ça empire même, parfois je n'ai pas d'accès à la page de déverrouillage du DD et impossibilité d'accéder à l'UEFI via F2, l'écran reste noir.

Autre info : l'ordinateur ne fige pas pendant qu'une vidéo tourne sous VLC. J'en ai donc une en permanence en toile de fond, tâche ajoutée au démarrage. Très étrange !

Il me semble que tu as déjà fait bon nombre d'installation d'Ubuntu.
Je ne sais pas si tu as Windows, Alors soyons fou installe windows.
Déjà tu verras s'il s'installe et si oui si ça fige aussi. Dans ce cas c'est ton pc qui à un souci matériel.

La batterie du pc est elle récente ? Des faux contacts ?
Sinon reste un souci de carte mère puisque ça fige sur les écrans du bios même avec les réglages par défaut.

Oui, j'étais dans les réglages du BIOS. Ça a figé 2 fois.
Je n'ai pas Windows pour le moment, j'espérais bien en être débarrassé ! Mais je peux essayer de le mettre en double boot.
Le PC est récent, batterie interne, je ne sais pas pour les faux contacts.
Je vais regarder tout ça.

Le problème est finalement résolu par un changement de RAM !
Visiblement la RAM Corsair (j'avais 2x 8Go en DDR4) pose parfois des problèmes avec Linux (quand tout marche bien avec Windows).
Elle a été changée par une société spécialisée dans Linux qui utilise Crucial ou Kingston.

Pour rappel, j'avais trouvé pour contournement de lancer une vidéo en boucle dans VLC, étrangement, ça évitait le figement.
