Bon je vais apporter aussi mes problemes à l'édifice :

1 - le boot sur Kernel 2-6.15-23 freeze sur "mounting filesystem root" et j'ai le message suivant :

J'ai moi aussi les problèmes décrit ci-dessus : lorsque j'ai updaté ma breezy en dapper, j'ai eu un gros problème avec grub?
J'ai ensuite tenté d'installer un dapper tout neuf, idem...
J'ai réinstallé un breezy tout neuf, je l'ai updaté en dapper : toujours des problèmes. En fouillant en peu, j'ai réussi à comprendre mon pb, et à y apliquer une correction temporaire :

Le pb est dû à une erreur de mapping des disques entre grub et le noyau :

Lorsque je boot sur grub, la séquence de démarrage du noyau se passe bien, mais quand il cherche à monter le système de fichier racine, il perd les pédale car le paramètre  root=/dev/hdb1, il est perdu !

Pour démarrer quand même le système, il faut taper 'e' pour lancer l'édition du menu de grub, puis modifier le paramètre root dans la ligne de démarrage du noyau, puis taper 'b' (boot)

Le système démarre alors convenablement.

Pour péréniser le démarrage, il faut modifier le fichier

# sudo vi /root/grub/menu.list
et remplacer les paramètres 'root' des commandes pour les différents noyau (on peut en profiter pour commenter les lignes de lancement des anciens noyaux)

Cette modification est à effectuer à chaque mise à jour du noyau !
