Je confirme les problèmes de freeze depuis edgy (alors qu'ils étaient absents sous dapper) avec à peu près les mêmes démarches que celles exposées ici, qui n'ont rien changé.
Mon écran (hyundai q770) s'est même mis à "trembloter" sporaidquement quelques fois par semaine, jusqu'à s'éteindre complètement il y a deux jours (dead - je raconte cela dans un autre pôst), mais ça n'apeut-être aucun rapport.
Etrangement, depuis deux jours, j'ai résintallé mon vieux spectrum 7glr, et après quelques manips sur le fichier xorg, tout est à peu près ok (sauf que c'est flou... très flou..).
ma carte est une ati radeon 9200 avec pilotes 3d radeon (je joue à des jeux en 3D, ça fontionne impec)
+ amd athlon xp 2800 et 1go de ram, pas de beryl
depuis que je suis revenu à mon vieil écran, plus de freeze, plus de tremblotement d'affichage
(mais une qualité d'affichage désespérante.. quand on est habitué à mieux c'est dur..)

quel risque y-a-t il à installer le noyau feisty 2.6.20-5-generic sur un edgy ?
(et comment devrais-je procéder sans faire de dégât ?)
Je dis ça au cas où je rachète un écran plat par exemple..

visiblement pas installer donc ce n'ai pas ca qui pose probleme

Si j'ai bien lu tes messages, tu as une carte Nvidia et la commande

dmesg | grep fglrx

s'adresse au pilote fglrx pour les catres ATI.

Ce qui explique pourquoi je répondais à crazy_c0vv.

Le mieux est donc de relire la doc d'installation des pilotes Nvidia.

A tout hasard, postes ton xorg.conf avant installation du pilote.

quand j'edite mon xorg.conf que ce soit avec nano qu'avec gedit le fichier ressort vide

pareil pour le xorg.conf.backup
j'ai taper ces deux commande la

sudo nano /etc/x11/xorg.conf

ou

gksudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf

les deux commande me donne un xorg vierge

par contre si je vais directement sur le dossier a l'aide de l'explorateur je peut lire le fichier

c'est ue gforce 4 mx 440 elle bien ds la liste des compatibiltées

Ton erreur viens du chemin que tu as indiqué

/etc/x11/xorg.conf

Attention à la casse sous linux !!
Passes donc, de nouveau, la commande

et colles le résultat.

AVANT tout fait une sauvegarde de ton xorg.conf pour pouvoir le restaurer en cas de problème. La commande se trouve dans la doc.

As tu installé

linux-restricted-modules-version_de_votre_noyau (pour connaître la version exacte du noyau que vous utilisez, il suffit de taper uname -r dans un terminal

comme indiqué dans la doc ?

As tu lu ceci concernant l'optimisation ?

ATTENTION, dans cette dernière doc il y a des avertissements concernant certaines options. Il faut donc d'abord, lire entièrement celle-ci, puis appliquer ce qui peut l'être !!!!

Les modifications à appliquer préalablement sont :

1/ Modifier la section

Section "Device"
Identifier "GeForce4 MX 4000"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

il te manques le "BusID". Attention à indiquer le bon en utilisant la commande

Bonjour,

J'ai exactement le mm problème.
Ma config :
Edgy + Gnome + Beryl + Carte Nvidia + Clavier suisse-français

De temps en temps cela plante. Le clavier ne fonctionne plus. Seulement la souris. Excepté la commande suivante :
CTRL+ALT+F1

si je la presse plusieurs fois de suite je vois l'applet indiquant la charge du processeur avancer.

Une fois je crois que j'ai réussi en utilisant la commande CTRL+ALT+ F6 (ou F5 je sais plus) a repasser en mode console puis a me logger en faisant CTRL+ALT+F1 après chaque commande (des fois plusieurs fois de suite avant que la commande soit entièrement exécutée). J'ai pu faire un reboot "propre". Mais ça m'a pris un bon 20min.

C'est comme si le processeur pouvait faire qu'une seule opération à la fois !?!

J'espère que ça pourra aider.

Tu a vraiment pas de chance est ce que tu peut regarder dans les fichier kern.log message qui se trouve en /var/log durant la période de crash (essaye de regarder dans les différent fichier des journaux d'évenement il doit bien avoir une solution )
