[Résolu] - Perte de la configuration d'écrans. Pilote nouveau HS.

Bonjour,
Suite à un plantage de Linux j'ai du arrêter l'ordi avec une session ouverte.
Depuis, lors du lancement je n'arrive pas à retrouver mon ancienne configuration concernant mes écrans.
L'ancienne config était la suivante:
. un écran interne au portable
. un écran externe configuré en 1680x1050

Désormais lorsque je démarre, xorg ne reconnaît plus que l'écran externe configuré en 1280x1024.

Comme indiqué dans la doc, j'ai tenté de reconfigurer xorg par la commande:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

J'ai l'impression que la commande n'a aucun effet car je constate l'absence de fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Pour info, je n'ai pas pu lancer cette commande, dans un terminal en dehors de ma session, car lorsque j'utilise (CTRL+ALT+F1) au moment du loggin j'ai un bel écran noir dans lequel il est impossible d'entrer la moindre commande (même en aveugle, cela reste sans effet).
J'ai donc tapé la commande dans ma session, et aussi en mode recovery avec une session root.
Dans les deux cas, aucune apparition d'un fichier xorg.conf

J'avais mis de côté ce problème (toujours d'actualité) mais je décide de m'y attaquer de nouveau.
Donc j'ai fait les essais suivants:

xrandr --newmode "1680x1050"  120.21  1680 1776 1952 2224  1050 1051 1054 1081  -HSync +Vsync
xrandr --addmode default 1680x1050

Jusque là a priori tout va bien. C'est après que ça se corse

xrandr --output default --mode  1680x1050

me retourne

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default

crtc 0:    1680x1050  50.00 +0+0 "default"

J'en déduis que xrandr refuse d'appliquer ma résolution nouvellement créée pour cause d'échec de configuration de CRTC 0.

Précisions: les valeurs entrées avec l'option --newmode ont été obtenues par la commande

gtf 1680 1050 50

En utilisant les valeurs retournées par

cvt 1680 1050 50

xrandr me retourne cette fois l'erreur

xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1024 (desired size 1680x1050)

J'avoue que je ne connais pas la différence entre cvt et gtf et que j'ai donc utilisé ces commandes sans savoir laquelle était la plus pertinente.

Après quelques investigations, je m'aperçois que c'est la première erreur dans le log de Xorg qu'il faut creuser.
L'absence du fichier /dev/dri/card0 n'est probablement pas normal (peut être du au crash initial).

Donc je vais chercher à rétablir ce device. Le répertoire dri étant absent je vais chercher dans cette direction.
Si vous avez des idées sur comment rétablir ce device, je suis preneur.

J'ai déjà lu le tutoriel que tu me proposes.
C'est grâce à lui que j'ai pu essayer les quelques commandes xrandr de mon post #2 qui me retournent toutes des erreurs devant lesquelles je bloque.

J'ai investigué la piste du répertoire /dev/dri manquant, mais les infos trouvées sur internet sur ce sujet sont très anciennes et parfois obsolètes.
En cherchant dans mes logs, je suis tombé là-dessus dans kern.log

Mon investigation des messages d'erreur du module noyau nouveau m'a mené dans une impasse.
Effectivement l'opcode 0x60 n'est pas connu du module, mais je ne sais pas pourquoi je tombe dans ce cas, ni si cela à un rapport avec les messages d'erreurs retournés par xrandr.

Question pour les spécialistes: j'ai un autre ordi (de secours qui tourne sous Lubuntu 18.04) qui sait très bien faire passer le même moniteur en 1680x1050x60. Est-ce que je peux récupérer des infos (si oui lesquelles ?) sur cet ordi de secours pour faire en sorte que mon ordi principal retrouve une résolution identique ?

Possible que l'écran interne soit cramé. Je ne l'utilise jamais. Je fonctionne toujours sur écran externe.

@grandtoubab: Aaargh ... Je m'aperçois que je me suis mal exprimé dans mon premier message.
Le but est bel et bien de retrouver la résolution 1680x1050 sur l'écran externe.

Quant à la carte graphique, elle demeure inchangée. Le driver lui pourrait avoir été modifié lors de mise à jour du système, mais j'avoue que je ne sais pas si cela a été ou non le cas.

Pour le premier lien, je ne sais pas trop si je me trouve dans ce cas (chez moi la commande xrandr est présente et fonctionnelle).

Par le deuxième lien, j'ai abouti sur une page qui explique que GNOME parfois ne prend pas en compte certaines résolutions et qu'il faut, pour le remettre d'aplomb, effacer le fichier ~/.config/monitors.xml et rebooter, ce que j'ai fait.

Mais le problème est toujours là. xrandr continue à me retourner l'erreur:

xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1024 (desired size 1680x1050)

Pas de fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d sur mon ordi de secours, ni sur le PC principal.

A ta commande lspci -nnk j'obtiens dans la réponse (post 12):

Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau

Ça veut dire quoi exactement ? Quel est le driver utilisé ? Nvidia ou le driver nouveau ?
Pourrait-il y avoir là source de conflit ?

donc  c'etait pour essayer cvt -r

Et je confirme que /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d est bien absent (en tant que répertoire) sur les deux machines.

J'ai appris sur cette page, que nvidiafb n'est pas le driver de carte graphique nvidia mais un driver de framebuffer pour ces cartes. Voir résultat de la commande

modinfo nvidiafb | grep description

Donc il ne s'agit pas d'un conflit entre deux drivers.

Pour l'option Virtual je vais essayer plus tard, car je compte tenter une nouvelle piste. Contrairement à ce que j'ai écrit dans mon post précédent, il semblerait que nvidiafb et nouveau puissent être en conflit. Je vais donc tenter de désactiver nvidiafb.

oui. je confirme.
D'ailleurs la fenêtre Gnome de gestion des écrans m'affiche Unknown Display (là où pour toi cela affiche "Affichage intégré")

Je commence à regarder cette histoire de conflit potentiel entre nvidiafb et nouveau.
Je me suis dit que j'allais blacklister nvidiafb dans /etc/modprobe.d, comme indiqué dans cette page, mais je constate (avec surprise) que ce module est déjà blacklisté dans un fichier blacklist-framebuffer.conf

Du coup, je ne comprends pas pourquoi il est néanmoins présent dans la réponse à la commande lspci du post 11. Mystère ...

J'ai aussi consulté le retour de la commande lspci sur mon ordi de secours. Les deux modules (nvidiafb et nouveau) sont listés à la rubrique "Kernel modules".
Mais, plus intéressant encore, j'ai une autre rubrique concernant la carte vidéo

Kernel driver in use: nouveau

qui n'apparaît pas sur mon ordi principal.

Du coup, je me dis que le problème vient peut être de là ...

Le retour au #12 donne les modules du noyau compatibles avec ce GPU, pas nécessairement ceux qui sont actuellement chargés.
Pour savoir quels modules sont vraiment chargés, peut-être examiner le retour de:

lsmod | sort

Si le pilote nouveau est utilisé, tu aurais la ligne que tu mentionnes au #23 en plus de: Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau du retour au #12.

Par exemple chez-moi sur Ubuntu 16.04, j'ai une carte graphique nvidia GeForce 8600GT qui utilise les pilotes nvidia-340:

Merci ylag pour ta précision qui effectivement éclaircit bien le mystère.
L'usage de lsmod révèle qu'effectivement nvidiafb n'est pas chargé.
Ouf. Une question en moins.

Cela dit, je crois, de plus en plus, que le soucis vient du fait que je n'ai pas de ligne "Kernel driver in use" au sujet de ma carte vidéo.

Tout se passe comme si le driver nouveau n'était pas vraiment utilisé. Et pourtant je n'ai pas de driver propriétaire d'installé non plus ...

Je pense que cette incohérence (présumée) pourrait venir du crash initial de l'ordi (cf post 1).

Pour pallier à cela, j'aimerais bien pouvoir assigner (forcer) le driver nouveau à ma carte graphique.

Pour cela, j'ai désinstallé puis réinstallé le driver nouveau avec

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

puis rebooté, mais le pb est toujours là, et la carte ne semble toujours pas utiliser le pilote nouveau (pas de ligne Kernel driver in use)
