Tout est dans mon post, il y a un lien pour voir le résultat à l'écran du bug à la fin.
Dans le titre j'explique que le bug existe dans les deux versions.
Le bug ne genère aucun message d'erreur...
Ma carte est intégrée dans la CM, c'est une Gforce 440MX....

J'ai exactement le même problème, j'ai la même config, nForce2 (=> Geforce 4 MX). Qd je lance Nexuiz ou Word Of Padman, j'ai un écran noir (mais je peux entendre le son). Idem pour Googleearth, j'ai une planète vide. Par contre glxgears et beryl fonctionnement. Est-ce que cela ne serait pas lié à un pb de textures ?
Est-ce que vous avez réussi à trouver la solution ?

j'ai fait un bug report avec nvidia-bug-report.sh pour nvidia il y a presque un mois et j'ai eu un court échange avec un certain aaron plattner qui m'a dit ne pas pouvoir reproduire le bug et a relancé vers linux-bugs@nvidia.com. Depuis je n'ai pas de nouvelle. J'avais écrit également à echazare qui a démarré ce fil et qui m'a dit qu'il avait installé une carte agp avec laquelle ça fonctionnait. J'envisage moi-même de faire la même chose.

humm dommage, a propos de ta config, tu utilises quel driver pour ta GF4 mx ? J'en ai vu au moins 3 dans la liste des paquets nvidia, new ou legacy ou encore juste nvidia-glx. As tu supprimé la ligne
Load "dri"
de ton fichier xorg.conf ?

Je n'ai malheureusement pas de solutions, car je me trouve dans une situation identique.
Carte mère Asus A7N9X avec carte vidéo intégrée GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU (chipset nForce2). Une installation propre de Ubuntu Feisty (mon premier linux), installation des pilotes par le gestionnaire de pilote propriétaire.
Le problème se retrouve avec google earth, billardGl, planet penguin racer (PPR) : j'ai "l'impression" que le système calcule et affiche les structures 3D mais "oublie" d'y appliquer les textures 2D
D'ailleurs, avec stellarium, par exemple, les images des icones n'apparaissent pas (tout comme le menu de PPR).
Si une bonne âme a une piste, je crois que nous sommes un certain nombre à être preneur.

J'ai malheureusement le même problème avec le même chipset et le même driver nvidia
En effet, après avoir essayé moult réglages dans le xorg.conf de ma Feisty, j'ai installé la mandriva spring (juste pour voir...) et les symptômes sont exactement les même. J'en conclu que cela ne vient pas de Feisty......
A l'aide !!!!

Je laisse tomber et je vais faire les fonds de tiroir, je dois bien avoir une bonne vielle RIVA TNT2 64pro qui traine dans un coin

Vous savez quoi, j'ai le même problème depuis quelques temps déjà et là je me suis enfin décidé à faire une recherche et voilà quoi ...
à€ noter que j'ai une gentoo pas une buntu. Le problème vient donc bien de la carte pas de la distrib.

Bon j'ai également ce probleme avec nForce 2 et geforce 4Mx integrated. Les moindres application OpenGL ont des textures transparentes (ou noires ?) et ce même des les menus (2D ! ) des jeux genre Nexuiz, OpenArena...
Drivers nvidial-glx, depuis feisty (1ere distrib). Que dire de plus sinon que les cartes integrées, ça pue ?
