GPS Garmin sous Ubuntu une solution complète

Voici une solution complète pour utiliser un GPS Garmin (map60CSx testé) sous Ubuntu (Asus eee901 et Asus M5200 testés):

1- Installer les logiciels suivants via Synaptic:
   
    - GPSBabel pour dialoguer avec votre GPS Garmin
    - Gpsd: pour navigation en temps réel sur un ordinateur portable(optionnel)
    - Viking gps version 0.9.6-2: le logiciel puissant et essentiel pour le téléchargement et
       l'affichage de cartes (Googlemap, Openstreet map etc), dialoguer avec le GpS, créer et 
       envoyer les données (waypoints, tracés, itinéraires) vers le GPS, acquérir les données depuis 
       le  GPS, visualiser les  fichiers  gps en .gpx dans Google map, OpenStreetmap etc......sans 
       lancer le GPSBabel

Attention Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy:
la version 0.9.6-2 n'est pas encore disponible via Synaptic. Pour télécharger Viking gps (0.9.6-2) i386 ou amd64:

2- Pour connecter un GPS Garmin  pour la première fois:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

et modifier la ligne concernant gps Garmin en rajoutant #:
#blacklist garmin_gps
et sauver pour que votre GPS Garmin se rattache à nouveau automatiquement à porte USB. (à /dev/ttyUSB0).

3- Télécharger cartographie OpenStreetmap "ROUTABLE" (fichiers Zipped IMG) prêts à l'emploi et mettre le fichier gmapsupp.img (copie, coller) dans le dossier Garmin sur la micro SD du gps et en route!! Si pas de microSD utilisez le logiciel QLandKarte ou Sendmap20.

4- Pour convertir les fichiers GPS à un autre format (Google earth etc) sans utiliser gpsbabel et ses lignes de commande sur le site GPS Visualizer:

5-Pour POI, Ouvrir Viking et enregistrer les points d'intérêt en  .gpx , convertir en .gpi et les mettre dans le dossier POI sur la microSD du gps.

6- Pour créer un fichier "gmapsupp.img" afin de l'utiliser dans le GPS en compilant plusieurs cartes MapSource (.img) ou visualiser les cartes MapSources sur ordinateur, installer QLandKarte via Synaptic. Le logiciel Sendmap20 aussi permet de compiler et envoyer des cartes au Gps Garmin sans passer par Mapsource. Pour savoir comment l'exécuter sous linux:

J'ai suivi le tuto. Finalement assez simple.
Aucun ttyUSB ne se crée.

Mon but n'est pas la mise à jour des cartes (J'ai une Vbox windows, entre autre, pour ça).
Mais je voudrais tester les softs de navigation.

J'ai testé les instructions du site d'Andréas que cite Yamo, ça fonctionne impeccable pour le site de Garmin (mise à jour produit, achat de cartes...).

Cependant je n'arrive toujours pas à faire communiquer mon GPS EtreX30 avec mon PC pour gérer les traces, les waypoints... GpsBabel semble bugger.

le GPS ne monte pas, c'est un GPSmap64s (randonnée) avec oms newstyle personalisé.

Je prends le train en marche...
Deux questions :
1- Si ça foire vraiment, comment remettre le truc à l'origine ?
2- Dans mon achat, il est stipulé "Mise à jour gratuites et illimitées"...
Cela dit, pour les MàJ, je dois faire appel à un appareil extérieur, n'ayant pas Win chez moi...
Secondo, et j'aimerais quelques avis autorisés : il me semble que les MàJ gratuites sont en fait des choses qui datent un peu... Un exemple : à partir de chez moi, je dois tourner à droite pour faire le tour du rond-point, et revenir sur mes pas : la bécane m'intime strictement l'ordre de tourner à gauche, alors que le rond-point est en place depuis 7ou 8 ans.... et la mise à jour ... 6 mois...
Je me limite à cet exemple, mais j'ai bien l'impression que la vente du truc avec MàJ gratuites et illimitées est une belle arnaque...
Alors, si je pouvais trouver un système, sous Ubuntu, et qui fasse les vraies mises à jour avec les vraies cartes, j'en serais vraiment ravi...

Donc tu vas dans le dossier /media/algo/GARMIN et tu verras tes fichiers du GPS

J'utilise les deux logiciels.
Viking, pour faire le parcours de mes randonnées.
gpsbabel, pour les mettre dans mon GPS

Tu as un mini tutoriel de Viking sur le wiki Ubuntu : https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/viking
Pour gpsbabel, je ne me sers que d'une ligne de commande :

gpsbabel -t -w -i gpx -f fichier.gpx -o garmin -F /dev/ttyUSB0

qui dit de mettre le fichier au format gpx dans le GPS qui est à l'emplacement /dev/ttyUSB0
sinon tu peux utiliser une interface graphique : gpsbabel-gui

Quand on dézippe , on a le fichier suivant:

gmapsupp.img

Peut-on le basculer directement dans l'appareil (via le gestionnaire de fichiers) ou faut-il le renommer en fichier d'origine et donc remplacer l'actuel ? (gmapmap.img ou quelque chose d'approchant, je ne sais plus).
De plus, le fichier d'origine fait 50 M° celui-ci en fait 1,3 G° pas sûr que ça rentre, peut-être prévoir une mémoire supplémentaire, sous réserves qu'il la gère, ce qui n'est pas certain.

Oui,  il faut  une carte mémoire suffisamment dimensionnée, si ton gps offre la possibilité dans mettre une.

Merci pour l'info !
Parce que les mises à jour du constructeur, elles datent facilement d'un an ou deux.
Donc, si je peux le mettre directement dans l'appareil, est-ce que je dois le renommer, ou bien, est-ce qu'il peut coexister avec l'original ? Et si tel était le cas, comment la machine saurait prendre le bon fichier ?
J'ai lu, sur les sites à partir des liens fournis plus haut, que la machine pouvait gérer les deux, mais je ne suis pas sûr d'avoir bien compris.
Bien sûr qu'il y a une possibilité de mettre une extension (physique carte) sur l'appareil, mais il y a probablement une limite que le logiciel ne pourra pas gérer si elle est trop grande (je me suis fait avoir autrefois avec ça).
Pour les POI et cartes des "zones à risques", je suppose que ce sont deux autres fichiers supplémentaires.
En tous cas, merci, je vais essayer dès que j'aurai une réponse !
