[résolu]Problème d'installation du driver Nvidia geforce2 ti

Bonjour à tous,
je suis un vrai débutant Linux dans toute sa splendeur : bref un ignorant...
Voilà donc toute l'histoire. j'ai installé xubuntu sur mon PC. Pour configurer le Wifi c'était difficile, je suis donc passé sous gnome (Ubuntu Dapper 6.06). Le wifi marche. En tout cas maintenant j'ai le choix entre Gnome, kde et xfce au départ. Puis j'ai changé d'écran. Le nouveau (un vieux 17 pouces) n'a pas été détecté. La config 15 pouces subsistait. Après moultes recherches j'ai fini par utiliser un live CD et copier le XORG.conf. C'était mieux mais la résolution d'écran était bloquée 60 hertz et 1024 * 768 au maximum.
J'ai donc entrepris d'installer les pilotes proprio de NVIDIA. les legacy semblent être ceux apropriés. J'ai modifié ensuite le xorg.conf (mis nvidia à la plce de nv) mais aucun résultat ma carte fonctionne avec le driver NV ( interface graphique nvidia settings vide).
J'ai donc tenté d'installer un paquet plus complet (driver + rstricted modules). son nom : NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7184-pkg1.run
Avec un control alt F1 j'ai tente de l'intaller avant que x ne soit chargé (j'ai fait « killall gdm ») mais je n'ai pas réussi à l'installer, il n'arrivait pas à reconnaître mon kernel apparemment et comme il n'y a qu'une connexion wifi (inactive avec le seul terminal je pense) il ne pouvait pas la trouver directement sur son server. Décu je fais un start x au hasard et miracle je vois le petit logo nvidia et ca y est je suis sous xfce avec accès aux résolutions écran indiquées par mes soins dans le xorg.conf. Parfait mais par contre je ne peux plus déloger: je retourne au terminal avec un message d'erreur du genre dev/wacom introuvable. Coincé sous xfce seul un ctrl alt backspace me permet de sortir et évidemment  ensuite tout revient à l'ancienne config avec driver NV
J'aimerai vous poster mon xorg.conf mais je ne sais comment faire..

Houla !!
Je crois que quelques corrections s'imposent, tu confonds pas mal de choses !!
Deja, as-tu lu de la doc et suivi les indications du wiki pour installer les drivers nvidia ? apparemment non, je te conseillerais donc de commencer par la.

Ensuite, le fichier NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7184-pkg1.run n'est pas un paquet, il n'a rien a voir avec les restricted modules donc ne melange pas tout ! C'est l'installeur (executable) de driver propriétaire d'nvidia ! Si tu veux utiliser ce fichier, je te conseille de suivre le tuto nvidia.run (lien dans ma signature) et de t'en inspirer pour installer ces drivers.

Sinon (je vois que tu es sous Dapper mais ca aurais été bien de le preciser !), tu peux toujours installer les drivers legacy sous forme de paquets , c'est plus facile pour un debutant et le tuto d'install est aussi sur le wiki : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/nvidia#dapper_et_edgy1 !

Concernant ton xorg.conf et xorg.log, il ne vont pas ensemble l'un demande de charger les driver nvidia et sur l'autre, c'est le driver nv qui est vraiment chargé !!
De plus, le message "(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA X driver not found)" parle de lui meme, tu n'as pas bien installé les drivers !!!

Bref, lis correctement les tutos et reprend tout au début, ca devrait aller mieux !

PS : si ton wifi fonctionne avec une interface graphique, il fonctionnera aussi sous terminal !!

Merci pour tes renseignements. C'est vrai que je confonds pas mal de choses...
Mais J'ai bien lu le wiki et intallé avec synaptic les drivers nvidia-legacy plus les restricted modules qui vont avec. C'est justement grace à ce wiki que je me suis rendu compte que le driver n'était pas pris en compte (pas de logo et puis glxgears me renvoie une erreur). Alors qu'en stoppant gdm puis startx là ça marche.
J'ai bien aussi noté la différence entre mon xorg et le fichier de log. Notamment dans les tutos ils disent de commenter "load dri " dans mon xorg cette ligne n'apparaît même plus. Pourtant dans le fichier log il est indiqué comme chargé.
je suis un peu largué...

Si tu peux encore me donner un peu de ton temps...

le problème est résolu avec edgy 6.10. une nouvelle réinstallation avec les nouveaux drivers legacy 7184 présents dans synaptic directement.
