Problème lors du lancement de Grub

Bonjour à tous,

Comme beaucoup de monde je me suis décidé à installer Ubuntu il y a quelques jours, en suivant les tuto mis à disposition sur le site. Et comme beaucoup de monde aussi, j'ai un petit problème, et j'ai de forte présomption quant à la culpabilité de Grub
J'ai opté pour une installation en parallèle d'XP, sur un disque dur différent. J'ai actuellement 2 disques durs S-ATA, un branché sur la prise  S-ATA 1 (celui qui contient Windows) et le second sur la prise S-ATA 3, qui contient Ubuntu.
Je suppose avoir bien installé Ubuntu, en tout cas j'ai suivi le tuto sans trop m'éloigner, mais lorsque je choisis l'option "Executer GRUB" lors du boot, je n'obtiens qu'un écran noir avec la laconique indication : "GRUB_". Et puis plus rien ne se passe.
Quelqu'un aurait-il une idée de qui cloche ? Dans le doute, je posterai le resultat d'un fdsik -l et mon menu.lst quand j'aurais ma machine sous la main, car j'ai cru comprendre en lisant le forum que c'était assez utile dans ce cas la

Pour tenter de recréer le lanceur de GRUB, dans le lien suivant, tu descends à la ligne "Avec le CD d'installation version supérieure ou égale à 6.06 (Dapper)" et tu appliques la méthode décrite.

Mais moi, je préfère la méthode du lien suivant ( après la ligne "Restaurer GRUB automatiquement / Avec votre LiveCD (1ere méthode)"
