[Résolu] Pilotes NVidia sur Geforce 9600M GT (nouveau ou propriétaire)

Bonjour chère communauté Ubuntu,

(Solution ici)


J'aimerais solliciter votre aide et vos compétences car je suis embêté depuis quelques jours avec mon PC sous Ubuntu 14.04.

J'ai acheté le jeu Civilization V (Steam) pour jouer sur mon MSI GX701 avec une carte graphique NVidia Geforce 9600M GT 512Mo.
Depuis assez longtemps, j'utilisais le pilote nouveau qui fonctionnait très bien sur les jeux auxquels j'avais joué jusque là (même sous Wine !).
Cependant, après un trèèèès grand nombre de tentatives, de redémarrages, de tests, de reformatages pour jouer à Civ5, voici la situation :


Soit j'utilise le pilote nouveau et le jeu se lance, mais il y a un gros bug : aucun texte (menus, HUD, etc.) ne s'affiche, ce qui rend le jeu quasi-injouable.
-> Cependant, il n'y a aucun plantage et tous les éléments s'affichent bien (à part le texte).

Soit j'utilise le pilote nouveau du ppa:xorg-edgers et Steam affiche "OpenGL GLX Context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems." et s'arrête immédiatement.

Soit j'utilise le pilote nvidia propriétaire 173 et il n'y a pas de plantage ; mais Steam refuse de se lancer en affichant que les pilotes sont trop anciens.

Soit j'utilise le pilote nvidia propriétaire 304 ou 331, mais tout plante au bout d'une minute ou deux.
- J'arrive toujours au bureau.
- Le plantage se produit même si je ne touche à rien.
- Lors du plantage, je ne peux pas faire Ctrl+Alt+F1, mais parfois, je peux faire les touches magiques Alt+Syst+REISUB.
- La plupart du temps, je suis contraint d'appuyer sur le bouton OFF quelques secondes pour éteindre la machine car les touches magiques ne répondent pas.
- Ces plantages se produisent également avec les pilotes ppa:xorg-edgers.
- Ca fait longtemps que je connais ce bug, je l'ai toujours rencontré sur des anciennes versions d'Ubuntu depuis 2-3 ans mais je résolvais mes problèmes en switchant sur nouveau ou nvidia < 200 (le pilote 256 connaissait les mêmes symptômes). Ce problème semble être généralisé à tous les pilotes nvidia > 200.


Néanmoins, parmi les dizaines de démarrages sous le pilote nvidia-331, j'en ai eu deux sans le moindre plantage (miracle !).
J'ai même fait tourner le jeu durant quelques heures et en réseau multijoueurs avec succès. Et les textes s'affichaient bien !
=> Il est donc possible de faire tourner le pilote nvidia-331 sans problème sur ma machine, mais j'ignore grâce à quoi ! (NB : 9600M GT est bien supporté par nvidia 331.38)


Deux objectifs possibles :
- Réussir à afficher les textes dans Civilization V avec nouveau (mais ça semble être un problème spécifique à "nouveau")
- Réussir à faire tourner nvidia-331 sans plantage (que je privilégierai car il offre les meilleures performances).


Pour le cas de nvidia-331, je me suis penché sur plusieurs hypothèses :
- Surchauffe de la carte graphique : Extrêmement improbable car en vérifiant la température (juste avant plantage avec nvidia-settings), ça n'affichait jamais plus de 51 degrés (bien en dessous du threshold).
- RAM défectueuse : Un memtest (2 passes) ne donne aucune erreur.
- Bazar dans les fichiers de config : Improbable car j'ai refait les tests en partant d'installations toutes fraîches (reformatage).
- Environnement graphique buggé : J'ai testé GDM + Gnome3, XDM + Xfce ; toujours les mêmes symptômes.
- Options de boot (dans GRUB) : Pourquoi pas, j'ai essayé des options comme irqpoll, acpi=off, acpi=force, etc. mais loin d'avoir tout essayé.
- BIOS trop ancien : J'ai flashé le BIOS avec la dernière version proposée par MSI (v2.0a).
- VBIOS trop ancien : J'ai utilisé nvflash pour flasher ma 9600M GT avec une rom plus récente (tout en gardant un backup du bios original), comme proposé sur un topic du forum de nvidia.
- Matériel défectueux : Mais alors pourquoi le pilote nouveau ne plante pas et que j'aie réussi miraculeusement à faire tourner 2 fois le pilote nvidia-331 pendant des heures ?


Aujourd'hui, après une réinstallation fraîche d'Ubuntu + installation pilotes nvidia-331, j'ai pu récupérer les logs que voici :

Je ne sais pas trop comment interpréter ces logs.
A priori, je dirais que "GPU at 0000:08:00.0 has fallen off the bus" pourrait être source de mes problèmes (message présent à chaque plantage).
Auriez-vous des pistes pour résoudre mon problème svp ?

Je pense avoir trouvé la solution après une semaine de galère et de tâtonnements. hmm

Lorsqu'au démarrage, je lance nvidia-settings, je vais dans la section "PowerMizer" et que j'active "Prefer Performande Mode", ça ne freeze plus.
J'avais pourtant tenté de créer un fichier "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" pour charger ce mode au démarrage de X, mais visiblement le système des "xorg.conf" a changé depuis quelques versions d'Ubuntu.

J'ai créé un fichier /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf et y ai écrit :
