[résolu] Installer Thunderbird 2 sur feisty

Edit: Cette question est résolue pour feisty depuis le dix mai 2007.
Vous gagnerez du temps en consultat directement les messages 57 , 58 et suivants de ce fil de discussion ou encore mieux 104 et 105 pour le dernier deb à la mode. .

Bonjour,

Je viens de passer sans aucun problème sur Feisty et je voudrais installer Thunderbird 2 qui n'existe que sous forme d'archive tar.gz. Mais, d'après ce que j'ai lu, il semble que TB ait raté le train de feisty et que nous risquions d'attendre très longtemps un deb de TB 2 et donc je me suis fait une raison, je vais installer ce qui existe aujourd'hui sans attendre.

J'aimerais avoir un mode opératoire précis pour l'installer. J'ai décompressé le tar.gz et lu le fichier readme.txt qui conseille vaillamment de consulter http://getthunderbird.com/releases
Mais ce lien ne contient pas d'infos sur l'installation (ça doit être trop simple ).

Mon souhait est de mettre à jour sans rien casser ma version 1.5. Faut-il la désinstaller d'abord? Y at-il des extensions qui causent des problèmes? Quelqu'un l'a t-il déjà installé et peut-il donner quelques conseils?

Même problème ^^

J'ai bien téléchargé le fichier en .tar.gz, j'ai extrait le dossier thunderbird sur mon bureau et maintenant je suis coincé...

Si je fais

./thunderbird

il me met

bash: ./thunderbird: Aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type

Que faire ? hmm

EDIT : je viens de voir un internaute dire qu'il fallait

décompresser dans /usr/lib/ avec les droits root en ayant renommé le dossier actuel pour ne pas l'écraser.

Est-ce ça que je dois faire ? Si oui, comment m'y prendre ?

PS : Je suis débutant

c'est déjà une info

1. décompresser en root dans /usr/lib,
tu peux arriver au même résultat en copiant le fichier décompressé dans /usr/lib.

2. Pour le démarrage, il me semble qu'il faut d'abord se mettre dans le répertoire "thunderbird" décompressé, un truc du genre,

cd /usr/lib/thunderbird

puis ensuite seulement

./thunderbird

Mais, je préfèrerais que quelqu'un qui a déjà réussi la manip nous en parle...

A mon avis, si vous patientez un tout petit peu, la version finale ne va pas tarder à être intégrée au dépot d'Asher. Vous y trouverez déjà la beta. Ce sera quand même beaucoup plus pratique

Il n'existe pas UNE méthode pous installer ce type de fichier. Il s'agit d'une archive (comme un zip sous windows). Ca peut contenir tout un tas de trucs différents

Vu que tu débutes, je pense que c'est préférable. Tu fais prendre des risques à ton système sans savoir comment rétablir la situation si tu te plantes

Commence déjà par te familiariser avec le mode de fonctionnement d'ubuntu et notamment synaptic (regarde dans la doc) pour les install de logiciels. Tu pourras ensuite ajouter des dépots (regarde dans la doc) et installer des logiciels non présents dans les dépots officiels en sachant ce que tu fais.

En l'occurrence, si tu veux juste l'essayer, il suffit de faire un clique droit sur ton tar.gz, et décompresser ici, tu entre ensuite dans le dossier extrait et tu doubles cliques sur thunderbird. L'utiliser ainsi n'est sans doute pas la manière la plus propre, mais si c'est pour essayer...

ça me semble de bon conseil. Je vais attendre jusqu'au premier mai. Si c'est pas prêt, je demanderai le remboursement.

Quant à essayer la beta, euh, j'ai déjà beaucoup donné avec feisty et je ne suis pas mûr pour retenter une expérience de ce type.

Par contre, j'aurais bien aimé savoir comment l'installer proprement.  Mais bon.

Salut,

Pour moi la méthode la plus "clean" d'utiliser ce genre de paquet (déjà compilé) est la suivante :
1 - Si nécessaire, désinstaller la version actuelle de Thunderbird :

sudo apt-get remove thunderbird

2 - Télécharger la nouvelle version :

cd ~ && wget http://sunsite.rediris.es/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0.0.0/linux-i686/fr/thunderbird-2.0.0.0.tar.gz

3 - Décompresser l'archive :

sudo tar xvzf thunderbird-2.0.0.0.tar.gz

4 - La déplacer dans /opt/

sudo mv thunderbird /opt/

5 - Créer un petit script de lancement dans /usr/bin/

sudo vi /usr/bin/thunderbird

et y coller ça dedans :

#!/bin/bash
cd /opt/thunderbird
./thunderbird

6 - Rendre ce script exécutable

sudo chmod a+x /usr/bin/thunderbird

7 - Effacer l'archive de départ, maintenant inutile :

sudo rm ~/thunderbird-2.0.0.0.tar.gz

C'est fini, vous pouvez maintenant lancer simplement thunderbird avec la commande

thunderbird

Vous pouvez ensuite créer graphiquement un lanceur sur le bureau ou dans un menu (avec alacarte ou l'éditeur de menu de votre environnement).

J'ai déjà utilisé plusieur fois cette méthode sur mon système (firefox, thunderbird, kompozer...) sans aucun problème.

Merci Did pour cette réponse claire et pas à pas que je retiens. Je ne manquerai pas de l'appliquer le 2 mai au matin si personne ne s'est décidé à sortir un deb pour Feisty.

Je partage depuis Dapper un profil commun avec Windows (le profil commun est sur une partition NTFS)  et je ferai l'upgrade vers TB2 en même temps pour Windows (mais là c'est un simple .exe ).

J'ai cependant encore quelques questions à titre pédagogique  (on ne joue pas avec le courrier ) puisque la réponse de Did traite exhaustivement de l'installation mais pas de ses conséquences:

1. Pourquoi mettre le nouveau dossier dans /opt?
Je viens de faire

locate thunderbird | less

et je trouve des thunderbird dans /var, dans /etc, dans /home, dans /usr/lib mais rien dans /opt. Ou c'est simplement parce que cela a été écrit plus haut et à titre d'exemple?

2. Quelle est la conséquence de l'upgrade sur le Thunderbird profilemanager? Il en fabrique un nouveau?

3. Après l'upgrade, on peut réutiliser ses anciennes extensions, ses anciennes boites mail, ses anciennes préférences ou réglages, le fonctionnement des filtres antispam ? Il m'a semblé lire quelque part que le nouveau thunderbird utilisait /.thunderbird au lieu de /.mozilla-thunderbird, ce qui pourrait changer pas mal de choses.

4. Et plus tard, pour la future mise à jour, il faudra désinstaller comment?

Toujours aucun témoignage de quelqu'un qui l'a fait?

S'il ny a personne , bon, je tenterai après avoir fait une sauvegarde globale pour être sûr de retomber sur mes pattes au cas où....Et je posterai un compte rendu détaillé sur ce fil.

le mettre dans /opt est plus propre que de le laisser dans ton home, toutefois cela n'égalera jamais une installation faite par des dépots, ni avec un paquet. L'executable dépend de plusieurs librairie qui devraient être placée dans /usr/lib/ ou autre répertoire du genre. Voici une petit liste des fichiers installer par le paquet thunderbird 1.5:

Il y a donc, comme tu l'a déjà fait remarquer, beaucoup de fichier partout. Il serait très laborieux d'essayer de reproduire cette configuration à la main. C'est pourquoi on met tout dans opt.

Sinon, après l'upgrade, tu devrais récupérer sans problème tous tes paramètres.

Je te conseil vivement d'attendre la sortie d'un paquet .deb ou la sortie dans un dépot de ce paquet ;-). Thunderbird 1.5 n'est pas si invivable que ça ;-)

Ben /opt (pour optionnel) est prévu pour recevoir tous les programmes que tu installes sur ton système sans passer par ton gestionnaire de paquet. C'est donc ici que logiquement tu copies les sources des paquets que tu compiles.
Ce n'est pas non plus une obligation, tu peux les mettre dans /usr ou les laisser dans /home, mais c'est une habitude que j'ai prise, histoire de garder un système organisé, sans trop de bazar dans mon /home.

Je viens de faire

locate thunderbird | less

et je trouve des thunderbird dans /var, dans /etc, dans /home, dans /usr/lib mais rien dans /opt. Ou c'est simplement parce que cela a été écrit plus haut et à titre d'exemple?

Effectivement quand tu installes un paquet via apt, les différents fichiers de ce programme sont répartis sur ton système suivant leur nature.
Ce n'est pas le cas quand tu passes par les sources ou un paquet précompilé comme ici où la totalité du programme reste dans /opt/thunderbird, mais cela n'est pas vraiment gênant.
Le petit script de lancement que j'utilise permet cependant d'avoir un lien vers l'exécutable dans /usr/bin, comme avec un paquet deb, ce qui permet que le système le trouve facilement (pour le lancement depuis ton navigateur par exemple).

2. Quelle est la conséquence de l'upgrade sur le Thunderbird profilemanager? Il en fabrique un nouveau?

Je ne sais pas, je suis pas sûr d'avoir bien saisi la question.

3. Après l'upgrade, on peut réutiliser ses anciennes extensions, ses anciennes boites mail, ses anciennes préférences ou réglages, le fonctionnement des filtres antispam ? Il m'a semblé lire quelque part que le nouveau thunderbird utilisait /.thunderbird au lieu de /.mozilla-thunderbird, ce qui pourrait changer pas mal de choses.

Ben je ne sais pas non plus, à vrai dire, j'utilise kmail depuis pas mal de temps maintentant.
Le mieux est probablement de copier tous les fichiers de config de la version 1.5 avant de la supprimer, et si besoin de les recopier dans ceux de ton nouveau Thunderbird, ça ne devrait pas poser de problème pour les mails et ton carnet d'adresse. Par contre pour les extensions, ce n'est pas dit qu'elles soient déjà toutes compatibles avec TB 2.0. A vérifier une par une.

Edit :  je te confirme que les fichiers de config sont bien dans ~/.thunderbird/, mais je ne sais pas si l'éditeur à prévu quelque chose pour récupérer les confs de TB 1.5, sauvegardes les bien, au cas où.

4. Et plus tard, pour la future mise à jour, il faudra désinstaller comment?

Tu supprimes simplement le dossier /opt/thunderbird et le script /usr/bin/thunderbird et plus aucune une trace de ce programme :

sudo rm -rf /opt/thunderbird && sudo rm /usr/bin/thunderbird

Toujours aucun témoignage de quelqu'un qui l'a fait?

Encore une fois, j'ai utilisé cette méthode avec Thunderbird 1.5 et Firefox 1.5 sur Breezy, avec Komposer sur ma edgy, et je viens de l'essayer avec Thunderbird 2.0 toujours sur ma edgy et ça fonctionne sans aucun problème.

PS :  c'est parfois plus sûr d'utiliser le paquet précompilé par l'éditeur, qu'un paquet fait par "on ne sait pas trop qui", sur un dépôt non-officiel.
Mais bon, c'est vrai que dans ce cas précis, je pense qu'on peut faire confiance à Asher .

Je ne marque pas encore résolu au cas où un utilisateur de TB2 voudrait rendre compte du fonctionnement.

En ce qui me concerne, j'attends le 2 mai pour laisser au deb stable une chance d'arriver.
Après, je sauvegarderai et j'installerai TB2 sur /opt .

C'est quoi le problème?

Si c'est l'utilisation de vi qui te pose des difficultés, utilises plutôt gedit (si tu es sous Gnome). Tapes cette commande dans ton terminal :

gksudo gedit /usr/bin/thunderbird

tu rentres ton mot de passe et tu colles ça dans le fichier vierge ouvert par cet éditeur de texte :

#!/bin/bash
cd /opt/thunderbird
./thunderbird

Tu enregistres et tu fermes, puis tu passes à l'étape suivante.
