[big problème]erreur de mode vidéo après un nouveau thème usplash

Bonjour,
depuis que j'ai installé un nouveau thème usplash via startup-manager, après le menu grub j'ai eu droit au célèbre "undefined video mode number: 31f". Tout le monde a toujours réglé ce problème en ouvrant /boot/grub/menu.lst et en remplaçant les vga=xxx par vga=normal. Tout le monde sauf moi... Quand je fais ça et que je redémarre, la seule différence est qu'il nya plus de message d'erreur, mais ubuntu ne charge pas: l'écran reste noir avec un petit rectangle blanc qui clignote au coin supérieur gauche
