pour la ram,
j'ai besoin de savoir la marque et modèle du pc.
regardes au dos  du pc et fait une photo de l'étquette d'identification ou bien recopies la dans le post :
-> marque
Modele
Num de série ( serial / SN..)
ce sera facile de retrouver ton pc sur le net et surtout de savoir le type de ram, et les emplacement dispo.
but : savoir ce qu'il est possible de faire ou non.
Tu as peut être 2 x 1 Go, et donc savoir si tu peut acheter 2 X 2Go, oubien si existent les barrettes 4Go, pour mettre 1X4 et 1X2, ou bien 2X4 go.... selon possibilité et prix des rams

Et bien voilà.... tu avait déjà tout en main !
Donc c'est une tour (mini tour ).

Tu peut donc : l'ouvrir et regarder tes barrettes de RAM : combien d'emplacement au total, combien d’occupés.
Si il reste des places , rajouter une / des barrettes en supp, pour conserver celles là.
Sinon, les remplacer par d'autres, de même type et de  taille de ram de plus grande capacité. ( tu hypothèques donc celles que tu as en ce moment = elles vont te rester inutiles.....pour garder en secours au cas où.......avec de grandes chances d'être poubélisées à + / - long terme ).
Chercher sur le net si dispo et combien elles coûtent.

Avant le DD, regardes plutôt les cartes graphiques. la radeon HD2400 pro avec 256MB de ram dédiée........si tu veut rester avec une ATI, l'une de cette série là semble pas mal  restes avec 1go de ram vidéo ( traitement d'image....):

la même que la mienne mais en version boîtier tour.

Pour le dd, tu as résolu le pb tout seul. tu peut éventuellement remplacer le disque système, par un ssd, pour gagner de la réactivité......fais gaffe au prix !

Si tu veut encore travailler sur les trucs gratuits.... il te reste à travailler sur ta distro.
tu as déjà : optimisé le cpu ( microcode ), et le driver graphique.
il te reste à opter pour un DE ( bureau ) qui " tire " moins sur le cpu la ram et la carte graphique.
testes openbox ( LXLE 32 bits jusqu'à 3Go de ram , 64 bits si tu passes à 4 et plus go de ram ).
Si tu veut rester sur la logique gnome, testes gnome classique ( paquet gnome-session-fallback), explications dans la doc ubuntu : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/gnome-session-fallback, et visu ( c'est gnome 2, de U10.04, mais réécrit avec les nouvelle bibliothèques ).

Cherches donc sur le web si existe de la SDRAM, type SODIMM 667MHz en barrettes de 2 ou 4 go.
Ouvres le boîtier de ta Tour, et regardes les emplacements de ram ( souvent à coté du CPU les barrettes les plus longues.
Il y a souvent 2, 3 ou 4 emplacements, dépendant des cartes mères.
Tes barrettes actuelles font 1Go chacune, donc il y en a 2 cote à cote.
-> reste -t - il  des emplacement libres à la suite ?
-> SI OUI tu pourras AJOUTER autant de barrettes que d'emplacements dispo.
dans ce cas : LES NOUVELLES BARRETTES( les plus grandes capacités )Ien premier, puis les autres à la suite.
-> SI NON tu pourras REMPLACER, par des nouvelles barrettes de capacité SUPERIEURE, selon ce que tu vas trouver à acheter en ligne.

ouvres ton pc et vérifies que c'est bien des barrettes identiques.
sur le lien  il y a touites les tailles tous les prix, regardes les 2 et 4go, les kingston ont l'air pas mal.

Avant d'ouvrir la bête, j'ai fouillé dans les photos que j'avais prises au moment de mon changement de DD.

En voici une :

Ce que j'ai entouré de rouge correspond-il aux deux barrettes de mémoire ? (inscris dessus : MEMORY S/N KN TGB0....)
Dans ce cas, pas de place apparemment pour d'autres barrettes !

Ces deux barrettes là seraient-elles intéressantes ?

N'y a-t-il pas de risque d'incompatibilité ?

Peux-t-on les changer après avoir arrêté et débranché l'ordinateur, seulement en dé-clipsant les anciennes pour les remplacer par les nouvelles ? (je crois que l'on ne peut pas se tromper de sens).
Précautions particulières à la mise en route de l'ordinateur ?

Oui ça à l'air d'être les emplacement. on voit mal comment elles sont montées.
DDR compatibles sur slot SDR, j'ai peur que non, voir là l'explication trouvée dans une discussion : http://www.clubic.com/forum/hardware-ge … ml#7094828

Je pense que ton pc est déjà gonflé au maxi ( 2 x 1 Go ) en SDR, je n'arrive pas a trouver des barrettes plus grosses que 1Go en SO-DIMM SDRAM comme la tienne.

je n'ai pas cherché partout, mais je ne pars pas positif finalement.
Il te reste deux pistes :
-> piste   travailler sur la config Ubuntu : mettre une interface graphique moins exigeante pour le pc,
-> piste   changer la carte graphique : la nouvelle aura un proco + puissant et plus de ram cela va décharger le coreduo et te redonner de la fluidité

Bon, ça se présente mal finalement !...
Est-ce compliqué de changer la carte graphique ? Est-ce onéreux ?

Dans le tableau du moniteur système que j'ai fourni plus haut, la mémoire + swap étaient presque remplis à certains moments (utilisation logiciels photos), il restait une petite marge, mais c'était surtout le CPU qui était au max !

Question prix, pour moi tu devrais pouvoir trouver à +/- 60 eur, je n'ai pas cherché

non pas le proco, sauf si tu connais exactement la marque et modele de carte mère : elles sont compatibles avec un certain nombres de calculateurs.

plus facile de commencer par la carte graphique.
tu verras plus tard pour le processeur
mais penses à la fable de la fontaine de la grenouille qui veut être aussi grosse que le boeuf..
arrivé a un moment donné , cg + proco +..+...
tu vas finir par racheter un pc en pièces détachées

Je suis devenu plus modeste dans mes ambitions et j'ai tenté d'installer Openbox.
Je l'ai chargé avec Synaptic.
Mais impossible de le lancer avec le bouton "lancer".
J'ai la dernière version d'ubuntu.
Comment faire ?

Je viens seulement de m'apercevoir que tu mélanges les variantes :
Tu as Ubuntu. Et au lieu de traiter tes collections avec un logiciel prévu pour Gnome, tu as installé digikam.
  Eh bien je viens de faire le test sur une Linux Mint Maya : si j'installais digikam, cela me ferait  d'un coup, selon synaptic, installer 137 paquets et utiliser 385 Mo d'espace disque supplémentaire.
  C'est le genre de charge qu'un pc puissant peut supporter, mais trop lourd pour un ordinosaure à SDRAM (donc mémoire asynchrone).

- Si la SDRAM existe en barrettes de 2 Go, mais j'en doute fort, procure-t-en deux.
- Et si elle n'existe pas, tu restes dans la m... parce qu'à supposer que tu désinstalles digikam, il me semble - mais cela reste à confirmer par un spécialiste - que tous tes tags, commentaires  et classements seraient perdus.

  Lors de tes prochaines installations, tu sauras qu'il faut appliquer cette section de la doc :
Installer_sous_ubuntu_en_limitant_les_dependances_kde
  (Mais, même ainsi, si j'installais digikam, cela me ferait  d'un coup, selon synaptic, installer 94 paquets et utiliser 236 Mo d'espace disque supplémentaire).
Et bien entendu abaisser ton swappiness, comme BrunoGey te l'a fait faire.

Bonjour moko138,

On a résolu la problématique de la ram...........pas possible de modifier. Jemo, a déjà le maxi possible sur son pc.

Après, j'ai le sentiment qu'il ne souhaite pas faire le choix d'une nouvelle carte graphique.
Il lui reste à travailler à l’allègement de sa distro linux, afin de ne charger la machine qu'au mini, j'ai suggéré l'interface LXDE basée sur openbox.

Je ne gère pas du tout son applicatif de traitement d'image.
Si tu as des connaissances, elles seront les bienvenues pour le guider dans le choix et le paramétrage d'une appli qui privilégiera le ratio utilité / contrainte de calcul.

J'ai bien reçu la doc de Bruno pour installer Openbox par LXDE. Je vais regarder de près.
je crois, par ailleurs, si je comprends bien que j'utilise un logiciel très lourd, DigiKam, dont les fonctionnalités me plaisent bien mais qui est déjà lent à l’ouverture.
J'ai aussi XnWiew qui est sans doute moins lourd mais qui est aussi moins complet.
J'utilise aussi un logiciel de traitement Raw, RawThrapee, que j'apprécie beaucoup (comme GIMP).
Pour l'instant mon ordi fonctionne encore bien, mais il faudra que je le change dans quelque temps car je comprends que ses possibilités d'évolutions sont quasi nulle.
Le changement de carte graphique serait vraiment efficace ? si oui je pourrais tenter.
Immédiatement, je vais tenter d'ouvrir Openbox selon le post de Bruno.

Je bloque sur le démarrage de LXDE que j'ai bien installé.
j'ai fait ensuite :
sudo leafpad /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
J'ai obtenu le tableau suivant dans l'éditeur de texte leafpad:
@xsceensaver -no-splash
@lxplanel --profile LXDE
@pcmanfm --desktop --profile LXDE
@/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome-authentication-agent-1
J'ai fait "enregistrer sous" et l'ai placé dans mon dossier personnel.
Est-ce la bonne méthode ?
Je voudrais bien expérimenter, mais je ne sais pas démarrer !

Je vais essayer de t'aider mais d'abord,
1)   Pour toute application en mode graphique, au lieu de sudo, utiliser
gksudo pour Ubuntu, Xubuntu,
gksu pour Lubuntu,
(et kdesudo pour Kubuntu.)
  donc pas de "sudo leafpad" jusqu'à nouvel ordre.
Si non, il y a risque de blocage momentané de la session.

2) je voudrais être sûr du point de départ. donc, s'il te plaît, donne le retour complet de

uname -a

cat /etc/lsb-release

cat /proc/cpuinfo

J'ai vu apparaitre en bas le logo de LXDE et des onglet des logiciels ouverts.
Je n'ai pas éteint mais seulement mis en veille ce qui fait que je suis actuellement en possibilité d'utiliser l'ancien et le nouveau.
