Problème gestionnaire d'applications

quand j'essaie d'installer de nouvelles applications, le message suivant m'est envoyé

Échec de la vérification des applications installées et disponibles
Il s'agit d'une erreur majeure de votre système de gestion de logiciels. Veuillez vérifier les paquets cassés avec Synaptic, vérifiez les droits d'accès aux fichiers et la validité du fichier /etc/apt/sources.list, puis rechargez les informations sur les logiciels avec les commandes : « sudo apt-get update » et « sudo apt-get install -f ».

lorsque j'écris dans un terminal : " /etc/apt/sources.list" ça me dit permission non accordée
lorsque j'écris "sudo apt-get update" , ça me demande un password, mais quand je tape, rien ne s'écrit

ensuite, si j'essaie d'entrer dans mon gestionnaire de paquets synaptic, ça écrit ceci:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ca.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty-updates_restricted_binary-i386_Packages
E: Impossible d'ouvrir ou d'analyser le fichier contenant la liste des états ou celui des paquets disponibles.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

gestionnaire pour les mises à jour:
Impossible d'initialiser les données sur les paquets
Un problème insoluble est survenu pendant l'initialisation des informations du paquet.
Veuillez signaler ce bogue du paquet « update-manager » en y joignant le message d'erreur suivant :
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ca.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty-updates_restricted_binary-i386_Packages, E:Les listes de paquets ou le fichier « status » ne peuvent être analysés ou lus.'

Bref, je ne peut pas rien installer ni faire de mise à jour.

tape dans une console

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

puis enter
ton mot de passe puis enter
et colle nous ton source list ii

Pour passer un sujet en résolu : modifiez le premier message et ajoutez [Résolu] au titre.
évitez les réponses style : "tu n'as qu'a pas l'utiliser " ou "Google est ton ami" sauf si c'est de l'humour
