ubuntu 9.10 devient inerte intempestivement

PC Fixe Compaq EVO CPU 1.7Ghz, mémoire740 Mio.
Malgré plusieurs installations de Ubuntu 9.10 (soit par Live CD, soit par mise à jour successives à partir de 8.4), j'ai toujours un blocage imprévisible du PC avec Ubuntu 9.10. Les versions antérieures fonctionnent correctement.

Ce blocage intempestif se produit, la plupart du temps lorsque je navigue avec firefox, mais peut se produire avec OPenoffice 3.1. Le PC ne répond plus, alors que la souris se déplace toujours. Les différentes actions sur le clavier (ctrl-alt-Sup) sont sans effet...
Une seule solution: arrêt par appui prolongé sur le bouton marche-arrêt.

Mon analyse: il manque un exécutable qui relance le PC lors d'un "blocage" du à une saturation???
-Le problème arrive souvent (mais non systématique), après un enregistrement automatique.. D'autre part il y a un mauvais fonctionnement du lecteur de disquette...

Ce problème est-il connu?. Mon PC est-il trop limite pour supporter cette version , et dois-je me contenter de versions antérieures?  (J'ai un autre PC compag de CPU 2.8Ghz et 1.5 giga de mémoire qui marche correctement).


Nb1: je suis en double boot avec w2k qui marche correctement..
Nb2: j'ai pu écrire ce message sans souci.. alors qu'il a planté quand j'ai ouvert un message sur le forum relatif à un plantage "karmic XXXX"..

Ca me rappelle le genre de soucis que j'ai eu. Tu peux regarder ton /boot/grub/menu.lst, qui contient les OS affiché au démarrage, voir si tu as bien Ubuntu 9.10 et non Ubuntu 9.04 ? Parfois, il ne met pas à jour grub et tu te retrouves à charger un noyau ancien mais dans un environnement récent, et cela peut provoquer des instabilités.

Concernant le menu.lst, voila ce que j'ai actuellement:

Si ton plantage arrive après un accès au disque, c'est peut-être de ce coté. As tu des disques en SATA, et si oui, sont-ils en AHCI (voir dans le bios) ? Ca peut causer des problèmes parfois...

Autrement as tu essayé de faire un fsck sur tes disques ?

Je voudrais pas t alarmer, mais ton probleme est peut etre un signe de fin de vie de ton disque dur.Regarde l'outil present dans les menus pour verifier si t as des secteurs defectueux.

Je fais une priere pour toi car ce serait vraiment pas de chance sad

Moi je pense à une fuite de mémoire. Tout marche bien, puis d'un coup, plus de place en ram ni sur le sawp et freezage !

sinon, le syslog devrait pouvoir nous en dire un peu plus...

2-Onclebenz:
C'est peut-être une bonne piste, "pb de disque dur" (puisque par ailleurs ubuntu ne veut plus recônnaitre le nom d'une de mes partitions de données fat32).. mais peux-tu me dire avec quel outil du menu, je dois "utiliser" pour vérifier mon disque?
