driver GeForce4 impossible à installer

Bonjour,
j'ai installé feisty après formatage.
J'avais Dapper et le driver nvidia sans aucun pb.
Maintenant : aucune ligne nvidia dans le gestionnaire de pilotes propriétaires
j'ai installé nvidia-glx les restricted-kernel et tapé nvidia-configx comme indiqué dans le tuto.
au redémarrage, écran texte et erreur "file not found" sur :
/lib/modules/2.6.20-15.386/volatile/nvidia.ko
Quand je regarde ce répertoire, il contient nvidia-new.ko
J'ai essayé de le renommer mais il revient en nvidia-new.ko
J'ai réinstallé nvidia-glx et juste après j'ai bien le fichier nvidia.ko (et aussi le new).
Dès que je reboot, il disparaît et provoque l'échec.
Je suis obligé de revenir avec le pilote "nv"

Pour info, j'avais installé envy (oui, je sais j'aurais pas dû mais je n'étais pas tombé sur la bonne page en premier....). Est-ce là le pb ? La désinstallation de envy laisserait-elle des bouts de programmes quelque part qui effaceraient ce fichier nvidia.ko ?

J'ai aussi galéré avec un problème similaire... Installes automatix 2 pour Feisty,
il permet d'installer les drivers Nvidia.

j'ai regardé le bug .nvidia_new_installed mais je n'ai pas de tel fichier caché.

Evites l'utilisation d'Automatix, ça peut te causer des problèmes plus tard !

De plus étant donné ton modèle de carte vidéo, je pense qu'il faut que tu installes le nvidia-glx-legacy.

Ce que j'ai lu sur Automatix n'est pas rassurant. Je préfère ne pas tester.

J'ai un peu avancé :
en essayant le driver nvidia-glx-new, j'ai un message d'erreur au redémarrage :
device not found, ce qui est normal puisque ma carte nécessite le nvidia-glx. Mais au moins, je n'ai pas nvidia-new.ko not found. Là aussi c'est logique puisque c'est le seul qui me reste dans le répertoire /lib/modules/2.6.20-15.386/volatile/

Cela me fait dire que si le fichier nvidia.ko (qui s'installe avec le linux-restricted...) ne disparaissait pas au reboot de la machine, tout fonctionnerait.
J'ai essayé de le mettre en lecture seule mais il s'efface quand même au reboot (même si je n'utilise pas le driver nvidia, c'est-à-dire que j'installe le paquet et que je redémarre sans avoir tapé nvidia-xconfig).

Y a-t-il un moyen de savoir quel programme efface ce fichier après redémarrage de l'ordi (en mettant en place une trace, un mouchard, un log ?).

ps : j'ai essayé le legacy mais sans surprise, ma carte nécessitant le nvidia-glx.

J'ai rencontré le même problème et voilà comment je m'en suis sorti :

- Remplacé nvidia par vesa dans Xorg.conf pour avoir l'interface graphique
- Installation de Envy : http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html
- Après reboot, le problème persiste encore. se logger en mode texte et copier le nvidia.ko dans /lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/modules/volatile/ (qui se trouve chez moi dans /lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/modules/nvidia/)
- Lancer X
- Aller dans le gestionnaire des drivers proprio et désactiver le driver proprio
- Redémarrer
- Réactiver le driver prorio (Si le gestionnaire dit qu'aucun driver proprio n'est nécessaire, revenir sous X en mode Vesa, vous aurez alors la possibilité de le réactiver)

Ca a marché pour moi, j'espère, bien que cette méthode ressemble plus à de la bidouille qu'autre chose, qu'elle saura te dépanner.

merci pour ces infos, mais je n'ai pas nvidia dans le gestionnaire de driver proprio...
et puis dès que nvidia.ko est dans le répertore volatile, il disparaît au prochain redémarrage provoquant l'erreur "file not found" !
Il doit rester un programme quelque part qui l'efface mais où ?

La j'en sais rien... Ce qui m'étonne surtout, c'est que X veut le driver du répertoire volatile et on nvidia... Je pense qu'il faut plutôt chercher de ce côté là.
Peut être essayer de forcer le chemin dans /etc/modules ? Ce n'est qu'un hypothèse. Si quelqu'un saurait où sont définis les chemin des .ko, il est le bienvenu wink

Ce que j'ai lu sur Automatix n'est pas rassurant. Je préfère ne pas tester.


J'ai donc eu de la chance avec ma nvidia quadro 110.
