message d'erreur ELF header smaller than expected
Bonsoir,
Je viens de lancer l'installation de ubuntu 12.04 sur un ordinateur portable packard bell EasyNote LE et lors du redémarrage juste après l'installation, je me retrouver avec un écran noir et le message d'erreur suivant :
error : ELF header smaller than expected.
grub rescue>
Je n'ai pas pu non plus me connecter au wifi lors de l'installation.
Si quelqu'un peut m'aider ça serait super. J'ai cherché sur le site mais j'ai rien trouvé qui pouvait m'aider.

Je n'arrive plus à démarrer l'ordi que ça soit normal ou avec une liveUSB Ubuntu.
J'ai tout de suite l'écran noir avec l'information d'erreur.
Modèle de l'ordi : Packard Bell Easynote LE11BZ-11204G50Mnks
Je peux accéder au BIOS, mais c'est tout.
J'ai lancer l'installation de linux par une liveUSB

Tu n'arrives plus à démarrer sur une liveUSB mais cependant tu dis un peu plus bas que tu as installé avec une liveUSB. C'est un peu dur à comprendre. S'agit-il de la même liveUSB dans les deux cas ? Si oui, je te suggère d'appliquer l'astuce suivante : connecter seulement la liveUSB au démarrage de l'ordi moins d'une seconde après que tu as appuyé sur le bouton Marche de l'ordi. Cela permet de forcer l'ordi à détecter la liveUSB mais ce n'est pas suffisant : il faut que tu ailles dans le "Boot menu" (voir nota) de ton ordi pour sélectionner la liveUSB sinon cette andouille démarre comme d'hab sur le disque dur et tu te retrouves encore avec le message d'erreur "ELF header...."
nota : pour activer le Boot-Menu, je crois qu'il faut que tu ailles dans ton Bios au démarrage (appui sur la touche F2 au démarrage) et que tu actives la touche F12 pour qu'elle autorise le Boot-menu. C'est très pratique un Boot-Menu parce que ça permet de sélectionner à la volée un lecteur de démarrage (le disque dur, une liveUSB, un liveDVD) quelque soit le lecteur qui est défini en priorité de démarrage dans le Bios.

Merci pour ta réponse, ça a fonctionné.
Je vais relancer l'installation et voir ce qu'il se passe.
J'avais installé ubuntu avec la liveUSB tout avait bien fonctionné, c'est lors du redémarrage que ça m'a fait cette erreur et depuis plus rien.

J'ai complété mon post entre temps. Essaie d'activer le Boot-Menu par la touche F12 : c'est vraiment très pratique. Ce n'est pas indispensable de refaire l'installation complète : tu aurais dû seulement purger et réinstaller Grub avec Boot-Repair et ça aurait suffit.

Je n'ai pas encore relancé l'installation, je vais donc pouvoir faire comme tu m'as indiqué.

Peux-tu poster ton Boot-Info : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/tutoriel/boot-info
afin que ça serve d'exemple à ceux qui ont le même modèle d'ordi que toi.
Pour profiter du fait que tu as réussi à faire fonctionner ton Ubuntu installé, je te propose de faire ce Boot-Info depuis ta session normale de Ubuntu (au lieu de le faire depuis une session live comme préconisé à l'étape 1)
